Today in Parliament, our MPs called for continued support for Singaporean women.

PM Lee Hsien Loong said in his National Day Message:

🤝🏼Lower-wage workers: In Singapore, no matter where you start in life, we want to make sure you and your children will have every chance to improve yourselves and move ahead. We are looking into more sustained support for lower-wage workers.

🛂Foreign work-pass holders: We must address Singaporeans’ anxieties over foreign work pass holders, while keeping a balance that will keep growing jobs and opportunities for Singaporeans.

🛐Race and religion:  With every new generation, our racial harmony needs to be refreshed, reaffirmed, and reinforced.

Tomorrow, PM Lee will speak at the National Day Rally to outline how we will continue the PAP's mission of building a fair and just society.

Our MPs have been listening to the concerns of workers (Desmond Choo: http://tiny.cc/apeiuz), including PMEs (Patrick Tay: http://tiny.cc/x7diuz) and gig workers (Yeo Wan Ling: http://tiny.cc/08diuz), and are looking forward to announcements that will benefit workers at the NDR.

The mission of the PAP has always been to build a fair and just society where the benefits of progress are spread widely to all.

In today’s National Day Rally, PM Lee Hsien Loong outlined a few ways in which we will keep fulfilling this mission.

With enhancements to Workfare Income Supplement and expansion of the Progressive Wage Model, almost all lower wage workers will get a wage boost within the next 2 years.

The government will also look into more laws to protect gig workers, while giving greater assurance to local workers on the issue of workplace discrimination. Our MPs from the labour movement and business sector pledged their support for these changes, as they have also been calling for greater action on these issues.

Legislation will be introduced to ensure our racial harmony is not compromised, and Muslim nurses in the public healthcare sector will be allowed to wear a tudung with their uniforms if they wish to. Our MPs share their reactions to these announcements.

In his National Day Rally speech, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said the Government has accepted the recommendations from the Tripartite Workgroup on Lower-Wage Workers to help improve the livelihoods of lower-wage workers.

Chairperson of the Workgroup and MP for Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC Zaqy Mohamad said the Government's plans set the bar on sustainable wage growth for our lower-wage workers and create a win-win condition for our workers and employers so that Singapore prospers and progresses as one.

全国职工总会副秘书长徐芳达强调,人民行动党政府能够推出一系列的配套措施来改善低薪员工的生活和就业前景,全靠劳资政三方的合作和互信。

PM Lee reaffirmed that we would keep strengthening our racial and religious equality and harmony. The People's Action Party has never wavered from this principle. In 1965, Founding PM Lee Kuan Yew stressed that our Constitution ensures equality for all, that Singapore belongs to everyone regardless of race and religion.

Chairwoman of PAP Women’s Wing Minister Josephine Teo stressed that we want to remove barriers and provide the best possible opportunities for women in tech, so that we can achieve the best possible progress at the national-, corporate- or individual-levels.

Something customised will always fit better, and go-getter Mavis has no qualms in tailoring her career to match her passions, challenging stereotypes to be at the forefront and break new grounds.

Her mantra? Be comfortable with the uncomfortable!

When it comes to making choices in life, Mavis echoed MP Yeo Wan Ling’s perspective that there are no one-size-fits-all. Women in Singapore need to know that they do not have to conform, and are empowered to pursue their ambitions. They can design their life experiences and personal development with the right skills.

As a society, we must continue to inspire and encourage the women in our lives to pursue their aspirations and take action to enable them to define their path by protecting the choices that they make.

Join us in our advocacy for women in Singapore.

For Women, With Women.

Our women take centrestage with 2021 being the Year of Celebrating SG Women, and every woman in Singapore must be empowered to live their lives to the fullest potential.

As much as they want to thrive in every aspect of their lives, our women continue to face challenges at home, at work and in the community. Their concerns are real.

Now all of us can do something to encourage, support and uplift the women around us. Every action counts.

#ActionForHer is our invitation for YOU to stand with our women in Singapore.

What is one action you will take for her? She could be your mother, your wife, your colleague, your sister, your friend, your daughter.

Step up. Step forward. Chip in. Tell us here: https://bit.ly/3AkHiZQ
Women in Singapore have come a long way and with the significant progress that we have seen, women are capable of achieving their goals.

At the start of her career, Samantha felt alone and even considered giving it all up. Through her interaction with MOS Gan Siow Huang, she learned it was natural for a woman in Singapore to have high expectations of themselves. Ms Gan reminded her that help is never far away. But ultimately, it is important to believe in one's own abilities.

With a robust ecosystem of support to encourage them to push through their dreams no matter the challenges, and a strong sense of confidence, women in Singapore can go even further.

Join us in our advocacy for women in Singapore.
