Ukraine Asks Moldova to Cut Rail Freight Tariffs for Grain Exports Blocked After Russian Strikes
Transporting grain by rail should allow Ukraine to somehow maintain its export volumes, which have plunged following recent Russian strikes on the ports of Greater Odesa, Reuters reports.
Kyiv has reportedly asked Chisinau to cut rail freight tariffs by as much as 50%.
Ukraine and Moldova are currently discussing how much grain can be transported and within what timeframe. According to former head of Moldova's Railway Oleg Tofilat, the route could handle around 4.5 million tonnes of grain per year.
Before the Russian attacks began, more than 90% of Ukrainian grain was exported through seaports.
However, while the new route could indeed help preserve Ukraine's exports, the Russian scum will now have yet another incentive to target railway infrastructure.
