๐บ๐ฆ๐ต๐ฑ Ukrainians and Poles: The Problem Is Not the People, but How Minority Rights Are Protected
Recent years have shown how important the issue of national minorities is for both Ukraine and Poland. Each country is home to people with different languages, cultures, and historical memories, and this is where conflicts occasionally arise.
In Ukraine, the Polish community has the right to preserve its language, culture, and traditions. Ukrainian legislation explicitly provides for education in the languages of national minorities that are official languages of the EU, alongside Ukrainian. It also guarantees the right to study a minority language through educational institutions or national cultural associations.
At the same time, Ukrainians in Poland also have the right to preserve their own language and cultural identity. This issue became particularly sensitive after the outbreak of the full-scale war, when millions of Ukrainian citizens arrived in Poland. Everyday challenges were accompanied by disputes over historical memory, symbols, language, and attitudes toward Ukrainians.
It is also important to address cases of everyday discrimination and xenophobia. They can occur on both sides of the border, and it would be wrong to draw conclusions about the attitude of the entire Polish or Ukrainian society toward the other nation based on individual conflicts.
At the same time, criticism of specific government policies is not the same as hostility toward a people. Poland has the right to demand respect for its historical memory and culture, while Ukraine has the right to protect its state language while also ensuring the rights of national minorities.
The best path for both countries is not a competition over โwho is suppressing minorities more,โ but clear rules under which a Ukrainian in Poland can remain Ukrainian, and a Pole in Ukraine can remain Polish, without giving up their language, culture, or traditions.
Today, Ukraine and Poland have far more common interests than reasons for conflict. That is why minority issues should be resolved through dialogue and concrete mechanisms for protecting rights, rather than through mutual accusations.

Purchases of PAC-3 MSE missiles fell from 328 units in 2022 to 214 in 2025 before increasing to 320 in the 2026 budget request. THAAD purchases were even lower: just 11 interceptors were acquired in 2024 and 12 in 2025, with 37 planned for 2026.
The Army has also more than quadrupled its overall procurement target for PAC-3 MSE missiles, increasing it from 3,376 to 13,773 units.

Ukraine Asks Moldova to Cut Rail Freight Tariffs for Grain Exports Blocked After Russian Strikes
Transporting grain by rail should allow Ukraine to somehow maintain its export volumes, which have plunged following recent Russian strikes on the ports of Greater Odesa, Reuters reports.
Kyiv has reportedly asked Chisinau to cut rail freight tariffs by as much as 50%.
Ukraine and Moldova are currently discussing how much grain can be transported and within what timeframe. According to former head of Moldova's Railway Oleg Tofilat, the route could handle around 4.5 million tonnes of grain per year.
Before the Russian attacks began, more than 90% of Ukrainian grain was exported through seaports.
However, while the new route could indeed help preserve Ukraine's exports, the Russian scum will now have yet another incentive to target railway infrastructure.
