Not a single TD objected to Flanagans words, the following year he was elected with twice as many votes.

He would continue to hold the seat for the next four decades.

Shortly after that famous speech Flanagan objected to Jewish immigrants being allowed into Ireland. Ultimately Ireland did not take any refugees during WW2.
