SMALL TALK
As a child, most of us engaged in more small talks than you and I realize. While growing up, we didn’t fully appreciate the significance of small talks, despite using them in our daily interactions. When we were pre-schoolers, we shared our toys with other children at the day care center, played in the sandbox with stranger kids or threw a basket with the neighborhood kids whom we barely knew.
However, we don’t engage in small talks as often as we should in our young adulthood. Often, our minds are preoccupied with daily stress, future plans and past regrets, neglecting a chance to ignite an interesting topic with the person next to you. As a result, we find our mind in constant process of past, present and future experiences, never feeling at peace in our own shell.
Thus, you might as well step out of your comfort zone and engage in small talks with people around you, no matter how insignificant they can be. Those conversations may range from “How is your day going?” to “I heard you got a promotion. Good job!” This allows you to be a part of everyone’s story, making you a significant person in other people’s life.
