Iran says it is ready to provide assistance to the Afghan people who are in dire need of relief aid after days of heavy snowfall caused a series of deadly avalanches.
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi on Monday expressed sympathy with the Afghan government and nation over the death of people hit by cold spell.
At least 119 people lost their lives following avalanches in Afghanistan triggered by heavy snowfall across the country in recent days.
Afghanistan’s state minister for disaster management and humanitarian affairs Wais Ahmad Barmak said that at least 89 people had also been injured and 190 homes destroyed by avalanches in multiple provinces.
Those figures were expected to rise as rescue teams made their way through isolated snow-blocked roads to afflicted areas where it is feared more people are trapped beneath the snow.
The Afghan government, on Sunday, declared a public holiday due to the heavy snowfall across the country.
Last month, heavy snowfall and freezing cold claimed the lives of 27 children, all under the age of five, in the remote district of Darzab in the northern province of Jawzjan.
Back in 2015, some 300 people lost their lives after they were buried under avalanches across the Asian country, most of them in the eastern mountainous province of Panjshir, north of the capital, Kabul.
Each winter, heavy snowfall and avalanches kill scores of people in Afghanistan, where inadequate emergency equipment does not match the scope of natural disasters.

🏀💡Success is 99 percent failure
I’ve missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot … and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life … and that is why I succeed. Michael Jordan was one of the greatest athletes of all time, but like all great people, he also failed regularly. Watching Michael Jordan play basketball was like watching a man fly. His grace and talent were unmatched.
Clearly he had a lifetime of training and incredible natural talent, but these weren’t the only things that made him great. He also had a healthy relationship with failure. Like many greats in sports and business, he wasn’t discouraged by failure. The shots he missed and the games that he lost didn’t make him give up. He knew that failure was just another chance for him to improve.
Many highly successful people in the world of sports and business have this healthy relationship with failure. One of the world’s most famous inventors, Thomas Edison made thousands of attempts at creating a light bulb. He tried hundreds of materials for the light bulb filament, but there was always a problem. Some would burn out. Others would explode. Some would melt the glass.
There were always problems, but he never gave up and he never saw his failure as a failure. He just saw it as a step towards success. Edison once said, I have not failed. I have merely found 10,000 ways that won’t work.

❗️New York City students walk out of class for Trump protest
Hundreds of high school and college students in New York City have walked out of their classes and rallied to protest against US President Donald Trump’s immigration and education policies.
