Reflections on contemporary issues in Orthodox Christianity

So much of the Christian Faith was defended and explained during historical periods that Evangelicalism consciously avoids dealing with. This leaves Evangelicalism with no real understanding of even basic Christians beliefs. Which is a strange predicament for a group claiming to adhere to Christian “fundamentals.” Nor does Evangelicalism have even a tenuous historical connection to Christ and His Church. At this point, for me, it is an open question if Evangelicalism is a heretical “Christian” movement, or is it a totally separate religion?

By revisiting St. Bart’s, the archbishop emphasized his desire to grow closer to the Episcopal Church despite the repugnance of TEC’s promotion of the LGBTQ+ whatever-in-hell-turns-you-on agenda. That is the impression that one is left with.

To be fair, we have to wonder - should the words of Archbishop Elpidophoros be understood as a rejection of Orthodoxy or an indictment of political Islam? And, given the controversy, does it matter either way? In the end, there is probably no real difference in the impact of perceived heresy versus actual heresy. https://orthodoxreflections.com/did-archbishop-elpidophoros-espouse-heresy-at-the-religious-freedom-summit/
The Orthodox Church’s view of Heaven and Hell is very different from what most people in America are used to. The teaching on Hell that most know (or think they do) is of eternal punishment inflicted on sinners by an angry God. This teaching is frequently criticized on social media by atheists. To counter their criticism, I point them to the actual, authoritative teaching of the Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church.

This week: A priest we highly respect predicted a schism. His Eminence Metropolitan Ambrosios (of Greece) published a scathing indictment of the state of the Church. The Orthodox Church census confirmed large membership changes. Our world is shifting.

This is a response from a Canadian Orthodox Christian to a recent encyclical from Archbishop Sotirios asserting that supporters of a single communion spoon are “pagan.” The full text of the encyclical in Greek and English is published below the response.

The situation in Canada with Archbishop Sotirios is so serious, that any post involving him spikes our visitors. Multiple spoons bothers so many Orthodox globally, any post on that spikes our visitors. Combined? Traffic is off the charts. Orthodox care.

Bishops often have, at most, a small group of trusted advisors to whom they listen. Sometimes only a chancellor playing the role of “gatekeeper.” When mistakes are made, they are rarely acknowledged and repented of. The goal is to just quietly “move on.”

His Eminence Metropolitan Ambrosios also said in his article, “Wherever there is Orthodoxy there are wounds.” That is true all over the globe. But despite those wounds, most of the hierarchy simply goes on with business as usual.

It is morally unacceptable for Christians to be associated in any way with abortion. We have an iron clad religious exemption as the documents below conclusively prove. These documents were put together by a young Orthodox man who is active on Twitter under the handle @PatriarchPrimus. If you use Twitter, he is worth a follow. We posted an excellent article he did last year on Orthodoxy for African-Americans.

While the documents are originally geared towards the military (which is mandating vaccination), it is adaptable for any employment. The information is invaluable. Please download, read and share. https://orthodoxreflections.com/the-air-tight-religious-exemption-request-for-covid-vaccines/
Report from the UK: "more than enough evidence to declare the COVID-19 vaccines unsafe for use in humans. The mechanism for harms from the vaccines appears to be similar to COVID-19 itself"

We will not deprive the people of the life-giving sacraments of the Church out of fear.
We will not change the method of Holy Communion.
We will not limit the occupancy in the Temple of God.
We will not deprive the faithful of the veneration of holy icons, relics, and other holy objects or vessels.
We will not require the iconoclastic masking of our people.
We will not urge or require our people to inject themselves with experimental injections, especially those manufactured and/or tested on aborted fetal cell lines.

We therefore resolve to uphold the Holy Orthodox Faith of our Fathers and we call upon all faithful Orthodox to do the same. First and foremost, this is a call to deeper repentance and spiritual resolve. We all have a responsibility to identify the sickness of the modern age and to heal it by calling on the sweetest name of our Lord Jesus, saying, “Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me.”

Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) is legal and practiced in Canada. It is felt to give the already dying a more dignified exit, avoiding the final ravages of their illness. By playing god, are we robbing our patients of a chance to repent?

Surely the archbishop knew that many refugees from the TEC sought a home in the Greek Archdiocese. How can the venerable shepherd of the American Church not know what a scandal to see the archbishop darken the doors of an apostate, radical parish?

St Mark of Ephesus lived in times similar to ours. The Orthodox hierarchs were under pressure to modify their Orthodox beliefs at the Council of Florence for short-term advantage. The Orthodox laity rose up in protest and blocked the false ecumenism.

Imagine you love God and His Church. Imagine that you feel that things have gone dangerously off-the-rails. The Church has bowed down to secular authority in ways you could never have dreamed of. The leadership of the Church is making compromises with sin under the guise of neighborly ecumenism. But you are afraid to talk about all that with your people, lest someone rat you out to the bishop for unapproved attitudes. You are afraid to confide in your fellow clergy, because unless you are bosom buddies, they could also denounce you to authority for your crimethink. https://orthodoxreflections.com/isolated-priests-and-the-opportunities-for-the-burning-bush-brotherhood/
All these interfaith dialogues are done in secret and behind doors. There is no transparency. Not one of the Ecumenist hierarchs talks openly on the matter. The Orthodox faithful have no idea of what is happening, or what will happen to their Orthodox Faith. The Catholics have a multitude of heresies. They will not withdraw any of those heresies. How can we, the Orthodox, be united with them and still be divided on the issues that we all know?

Orthodox Christians have indicated to us that their priests are unwilling to support their requests for religious exemptions. A segment of Orthodox priests and bishops believe the vaccines are morally acceptable. While this situation is frustrating, it is not really a barrier to requesting a religious exemption. You do not need clergy support for a religious exemption to the Covid vaccines. What matters is your deeply held, sincere interpretation of your religious beliefs. https://orthodoxreflections.com/for-covid-vaccine-religious-exemptions-your-sincerely-held-beliefs-are-what-matter/
Comments are turned off. I wonder why? Maybe because this doctor is lying on so many levels? At least you can vote it down.

Our regulatory, corporate, political, and medical establishments are thoroughly and totally corrupt.

We can start our examination of this fact with the FDA. The FDA is essentially funded by the companies it is supposed to regulate and is run for their benefit, not the public’s. https://orthodoxreflections.com/pfizer-vaccine-approval-is-a-symptom-of-a-corrupt-system/
