The Hofner Congress is from the '50s. It was an inexpensive guitar. And the attitude was simple.
On the beach, on a picnic. That's why there aren't many of them left.
I was attracted to the advert because of its brevity and a kind of boldness - "I'm selling an old
guitar." That's it.
And one photo with an old case in the foreground.
It seemed like the owner didn't want to get close to it. The price was obviously made up - 100 euros.
I guessed from the shape that it was a Hofner. On the phone, the owner confirmed that it was a Hofner.
the guitar had been hanging on the wall for 60 years. We agreed to meet.
At night, in the hallway of his Bavarian house, I asked him if he knew that this guitar cost a lot more than that.
- Maybe, he said, but that's not important now.
He didn't put the hundred euros in his pocket, he was looking for somewhere to put them. The money was burning his hands.
We stuffed the guitar into the case together. It didn't want to go in.
I asked him if he played the guitar. He answered loudly, as if for someone else.
- No, but my dad really wanted it. He presented it to me a long time ago.
Then he corrected himself - "Bought it for me."
He wanted me to leave as soon as possible. I wanted the same thing.
I had to open the windows in the car because the cover smelled so rotten.
That guitar wasn't hanging on the wall! It was locked in the cellar and the little boy never became a musician.
But dreams die last, and neither father nor son had the heart to throw it away.
It shone when I took off the mould and soot from it. It was NEW!

No one had ever played it! I noticed a piece of paper in the case.
Pulled it out and sat for a long time not knowing what to do with it. On the crumpled scrap of paper was a child's
scribbles - a boy behind a string bar and the words:
«Ich darf nicht» ( «I must not.»)
