How can institutions use tokenization to connect treasury operations, on-chain liquidity, and traditional capital markets?

The technology is ready. The challenge is making risk, custody, and counterparty standards hold across different systems.

John McWhorter, Chief Risk Officer at OpenEden, brings that perspective to a roundtable at the Payments, Treasury & Tokenization Summit 2026 during TOKEN2049 Singapore week, alongside executives from Barclays, PwC, UOB, BitGo, and more.

OpenEden is partnering with Axcess to make capital more productive across institutional credit facilities.

Axcess will hold borrowers’ first-loss collateral buffers and part of its treasury in $USDO, earning Treasury-backed yield while keeping the buffers available to cover borrower defaults.

Borrowers can also opt to receive capital in United Stables’ $U through OpenEden, earning distribution rewards while using it as trading collateral to help offset borrowing costs.

The partnership extends USDO’s role into institutional lending operations, putting capital to work throughout the life of a credit facility.

The opportunity for tokenization is clear, but making it work in everyday treasury operations takes more than faster settlement.

That is one of the key takeaways from the Payments, Treasury & Tokenisation Summit, where our Chief Risk Officer, John McWhorter, joined fellow industry leaders at PwC Singapore to discuss how tokenization is reshaping treasury and liquidity management.

The discussion highlighted both the opportunities and the work ahead: connecting traditional banking with 24/7 markets, clarifying regulatory treatment, and managing risks across on-chain and off-chain systems.

Thank you to 8 Circle, PwC Singapore and our fellow panellists for an insightful exchange.

Tokenized assets become more attractive when investors have more ways to put them to work.

At XRP Seoul, which drew over 5,000 attendees, our Chief Strategy Officer, Stephanie Chew, discussed how we can build an efficient capital market for tokenized assets by offering greater utility.

While OpenEden's yield-bearing products are well suited for holding, we've expanded their utility by integrating them into secondary markets, as Stephanie noted during her panel.

An asset can move on-chain in seconds while the underlying investment takes years to mature. Building a market around it means accounting for both timelines.

That gap brought patient capital into the conversation at the Digital Asset Yield Summit during TOKEN2049 Singapore week: investors willing to hold for longer can also provide liquidity to those who need an earlier exit.

On her panel, our Chief Strategy Officer, Stephanie Chew, explored how investor expectations need to match the liquidity of the assets coming on-chain.
