BNY, the world’s largest custody bank, is building towards an always-on market. Earlier this year, it facilitated an after-hours Treasury transaction involving OpenEden and Ripple after Fedwire Securities had closed.

The trade demonstrates how Treasury activity supporting digital assets can continue beyond conventional market cut-off times. It also points to BNY's broader effort to close the structural gap between 24/7 on-chain markets and settlement that still follows traditional operating windows.

OpenEden was built for this transition. TBILL brings US Treasuries on-chain. USDO brings Treasury-backed yield into a regulated yield-bearing stablecoin. HYBOND expands on-chain fixed income with tokenized access to the BNY Mellon Global Short-Dated High Yield Bond Fund.

A stablecoin is only as sound as its backing.

Our Head of Americas, Nathan Paitchel, will join Spout Finance and Huma Finance today to unpack what changes when that backing is real yield.

Are tokenized RWAs genuinely diversifying portfolios, or simply repackaging familiar yield on new rails? And beyond the market projections, who are these products actually being built for?

Tomorrow, our Chief Strategy Officer, Stephanie Chew, will be joining a panel at Malaysia Blockchain Week to address these questions and more.

Large on-chain allocators in RWA markets invest the most in tokenized credit and Treasuries because these products closely mirror their off-chain equivalents and align with the allocators’ risk mandates and investment objectives.

HYBOND is precisely designed for them. It is the first tokenized high yield bond offering in the market, providing eligible investors 1:1 exposure to the BNY Mellon Global Short-Dated High Yield Bond Fund.

The fund is managed by BNY Investments, a global asset manager with approximately $2.2 trillion in AUM. It has a track record dating back to 2016, and its current portfolio has a 3-year annualized return of 9.47% and an average yield to expected maturity of ~7%.

At scale, HYBOND's institutional profile makes it much easier for allocators to evaluate, underwrite, and size meaningfully. But holding it is only half of what they can do with it.

The HYBOND market on Euler Labs marks the first time a tokenized bond fund can be posted as on-chain collateral for borrowing. The allocator can post the token as collateral, borrow USDC, and retain exposure to the underlying bond strategy.

For allocators who have built positions in tokenized Treasuries, HYBOND is the next asset class to add. It moves down the credit curve into managed corporate bonds without leaving the on-chain rails they already use.

BNY Investments brings institutional scale and deep fixed-income expertise to the strategy behind HYBOND. The firm manages approximately $2.2 trillion in assets, while Insight Investment, its specialist fixed-income investment firm, manages €230.2 billion in global fixed-income assets with 167 fixed-income specialists.

In 2025, Insight Investments ranked first for Overall Fixed Income Quality among UK investment consultants, its tenth first-place ranking in 12 years, and was named Best Asset Manager for Institutional Investment in the UK for the eighth time in 11 years.

In the full thread, we examine how BNY Investments’ fixed-income capabilities translate into the management of the underlying strategy, and how tokenization changes the way investors access and finance the position without changing the investment process behind it.

OpenEden has partnered with Symbiotic Liquid Lane to enable instant settlement for HYBOND, the tokenized BNY Mellon Global Short-Dated High Yield Bond Fund.

HYBOND brought the fund on-chain. Symbiotic Liquid Lane now adds a T+0 liquidity layer. Clearstar Labs and Amber Group provide the liquidity.

Tokenized funds typically retain the multi-day redemption cycles of their underlying structures. Liquid Lane gives eligible HYBOND holders a route to USDC on the trade date, bringing the speed of on-chain liquidity to an actively managed corporate bond strategy.

It was great to be back in New York recently, catching up with partners and spending time with the BNY team.

Our relationship with BNY began a year ago, when they came on board as investment manager and primary custodian for the TBILL Fund. Since then, we have continued to build together, most recently tokenizing the BNY Mellon Global Short-Dated High Yield Bond Fund (HYBOND Token).

Nathan Paitchel and I were pleased to be invited by the BNY team to join them for a round of golf along with their close partners, which was a welcome change of pace from our brainstorming sessions at BNY's headquarters.

Thank you to Doni Shamsuddin, Clarence Chan, Stephen Gill, Meena Ponraj, Christina Vu, Bushra Mannan, Maximilian D., and the wider BNY team for the warm hospitality and continued partnership!

"Economically, a tokenized Treasury is still a Treasury. The credit risk, duration, and yield are unchanged. Diversification does not come from the asset. It comes from what the wrapper enables." — Stephanie Chew, OpenEden's Chief Strategy Officer.

Tokenized RWAs have reached roughly $37 billion across public chains, with Treasuries and private credit leading. But what does tokenization actually change?

Stephanie made the distinction clear during Malaysia Blockchain Week. Tokenizing a Treasury does not change its underlying credit risk, duration, or yield. It changes how that exposure can be accessed and used.

The economic exposure is familiar. The utility is new.

Thanks Malaysia Blockchain Week for inviting us to be part of this discussion.

Digital assets are increasingly evaluated using established risk frameworks.

S&P Global Ratings’ latest stablecoin assessment reflects that rigor by evaluating peg stability, liquidity, and other key indicators.

The same discipline extends to tokenized funds, with OpenEden’s TBILL Fund rated “AA+f/S1+” by S&P Global Ratings.

As more financial products move on-chain, independent standards for understanding their risks will become an increasingly important part of the market.

The BNY Mellon Global Short-Dated High Yield Bond Fund holds close to 150 bond positions, and no single issuer exposure exceeds 2% of the portfolio.

Holding count alone does not settle whether a high yield portfolio is diversified. Position sizing and where that risk sits are decisions the investment manager makes.

Head over to our X to learn how the fund distributes credit risk across issuers, markets, and sectors, and what HYBOND holders get exposure to through a single token.

Short-dated bonds are often described as a way to take less interest rate risk.

But shorter maturities also shape credit risk. While an issuer’s bonds may carry similar credit ratings across maturities, the risk of default accumulates over time. Investing at the shorter end can therefore provide exposure to credit spread while limiting how long capital is exposed to the issuer.

Read the article on how a short-dated profile shapes the bond fund underlying HYBOND, and what it means when that credit exposure is used as on-chain collateral.
