OpenBLD.net pinned «Anti-abuse in OpenBLD.net flags suspicious traffic and sends the source straight to /dev/null. It’s a tough but precise method — triggered only when real malicious activity is detected. If you hit a timeout on OpenBLD.net — it doesn’t mean the service is…»
The latest release brings major improvements to traffic filtering mechanisms:
RateLimiter has been rewritten to be asynchronous, adaptive, and lock-free — eliminating bottlenecks and stalls under high pressure.
- Geographic scale-up and user base growth accounted for
- Enhanced sanitization of malicious traffic
- Improved handling of parasitic IPs (e.g., abused, noisy, or tunneling endpoints)
⚡ Increased performance under high concurrency
📈 Noticeable performance gains across European servers — especially under thousands of DNS queries per second.
🎯 Main goal isn’t just to block, but to filter effectively and on time, saving precious milliseconds.
🔄 The update will be done quickly, within a few days, this should not affect anyone, but if suddenly - Welcome)

The new release, codenamed Wllr, makes the DNS filter even faster and more reliable.
+ New strict hostname validator (RFC 1035/1123): non-standard and suspicious names are blocked immediately.
+ Optimized signature loading: updates are now faster and more stable.
+ Fast troubleshooting logging in hot paths: higher QPS without extra overhead.
+ Performance has caught up with Gram — which was the fastest release of the year thanks to fewer security checks.
⚡ The combination of speed and security is what we put into every release.
Keep evolving with OpenBLD.net 🚀

🛰 OpenBLD.net теперь и в Астане!
Первый DNS-сервер в столице Казахстана — запущен при поддержке NOVA Cloud.
DNS-over-HTTPS (DoH), DNS-over-TLS (DoT)

A new OpenBLD version is ready for deployment.
By the end of this week, the release will be rolled out across the ADA ecosystem — congratulations to everyone connected.
This update includes several focused optimizations:
- Sampling improvements and domain names proccessing
- Micro-optimizations for DNS context handling.
- More flexible policies for dynamic domain processing.
The update will roll out quietly — except for one noticeable thing: OpenBLD.net will feel a bit faster
Peace ✌️

OpenBLD.net is entering a new era of performance. 🚀
Over the past months, I’ve been working on a major upgrade of the zBLD core.
The focus is clear — acceleration, resilience, and predictable performance under load.
Key improvements:
- Multi-level Rate Limiter (RTL) to absorb traffic spikes
- Thread separation & sharding — reducing pressure on the main processing path
- ~30% of operations moved to async execution
- Stricter RFC-based DoH traffic validation — less “garbage,” lower latency
- Error sampling for unstable clients — reduced disk I/O load
- Reworked domain-filtering engine
- Improved detection of suspicious / DGA domains
- Optimized Linux networking stack and I/O behavior
Result: overall throughput increased by roughly 2×, and priority domains now resolve even faster thanks to smarter deferred analysis.
The update rollout is planned for mid–late December.
Only forward! 💪 Be yourself, be focused!

After six months of tuning the monitoring and DGA-domain blocking system,
along with the rollout of the updated RTL release, it’s time to cut dynamic noise out of the main traffic flow.
What this means in practice:
— Real-time blocking of suspicious domains
— Dropping junk DNS packets at the edge
— Reactive bans for aggressive IP addresses
⚠️ Important: DOGM is being rolled out gradually. In rare cases, false positives may occur.
For such situations, feedback is available here:
Take what you need — and cut off everything you don’t.
Peace ✌️

⚡️ benZine: Full Throttle for OpenBLD.net!
While you were sleeping (or maybe not), I rebuilt the “engine” of our update system.

So, what’s changed?
Over the past year, benZine has evolved from a simple script into a powerful ecosystem. The code has been rewritten and delivery fully optimized — now:
• Millions of domains are processed in just a couple of minutes
• Updates reach servers in seconds
Why does this matter for you, me, and all of us?
Before, after a server restart or a database update, there was a small “window” where fresh internet noise could slip through.
That window is now closed. Security policies are applied almost instantly.
OpenBLD.net is becoming not just cleaner — but faster. We remove digital junk before it even has a chance to think about our traffic)🔥
Thanks for riding along with OpenBLD.net.
More to come. Peace! ✌️

OpenBLD.net — Forced DNSSEC Under the Hood 🛡
A lot has been achieved over the years, but this past month we’ve rolled out a major update: forced domain digital signature verification (DNSSEC) at the deepest levels of the OpenBLD ecosystem.
What does this give us?
+1 Protection against domain spoofing.
+1 Resilience to attacks.
+1 Security Karma for the whole OpenBLD project.
Security shouldn’t slow you down. That’s why these changes are implemented to ensure top-tier protection stays perfectly in sync with high-speed performance.
This is one more step towards:
• Independence from public DNS monopolists.
• Enhanced privacy.
• Building our own secure, self-sustained infrastructure.
It’s another big plus: +1 to Independence and Privacy 🥷
Stay safe. Peace! ✌️

🥷 OpenBLD.net — IP Anonymization
OpenBLD is implementing an IP anonymization mode. Address data will be masked in logs and metrics—if any, and if they're not needed in their raw form.
DNS reveals more than you think. Your behavior is your life, it's your daily pattern.
Typical request path: Request > Domain > Time > Location
Your pattern, if you want a digital stamp)
OpenBLD now features IP anonymization in logs and metrics:
• masking
• hashing
• nothing at all or just the word "hidden"
This mode will be gradually implemented and, if possible, universally.
In case of diagnostics, well, let's try to troubleshoot the first octet and time. We'll see.
Privacy starts with DNS! Peace ✌️

Yo! The privacy march continues! 🚀
Anonymized IPs are cool, but now they’re deduplicated too! OpenBLD is rolling out an event deduplication mechanism. Anonymization + Deduplication — what could be better?
Sure, I might be shooting myself in the leg when it comes to incident analysis, but you never know until you try!
An efficient system should be lean and clean, and for a public service — private!
Moving forward!
https://openbld.net/
P.S. Anonymization is already live in the ADA OpenBLD in Europe, CIS regions, including Kazakhstan!
