The cool thing about Genshiken is how it portrays anime as something very obscure that only weird people enjoy, and they feel the need to hide it from everyone. It really explores the theme of accepting yourself for who you are. I miss the time when being a weeb was considered strange, and we had to keep it a secret from everyone else—I miss that feeling...

I want to share one of my biggest disappointments in life. I’ve always been a lonely guy. My family had a peculiar job that required moving to different cities often, and I always ended up living far from other people, in really remote places. Because of that, I was never able to make friends. I’ve had zero friends my entire life—literally none, not even colleagues.

I had to fill the void with online people. I always looked for others who were as lonely as me, and, oh boy... that’s where my disappointment lies...
I met a lot of so-called "lonely" people who told me they didn’t have friends either, and I believed it. I coped, thinking, "okay, many people are as lonely as I am, so I must be normal..."
THE FUCKING PROBLEM WAS, THEY WEREN'T TRULY LONELY! It turns out people have strict criteria for calling someone a "friend." They had plenty of colleagues, but didn’t count them as friends, while I was completely alone, thinking they were like me

When I realized I was anything but normal, and that people had a lot of social interaction, it was too late... I couldn’t fit into society anymore, even after my parents quit that job and finally stayed in one city. The lesson here is: never believe in those who say sharing your problems, THEY DON'T!
