If I ever date, I don’t want them saying “I love you” to me, or any other cheap compliment — in fact, I don’t want to hear compliments at all. Maybe desperate ones. You know when someone is desperate for someone and they give a compliment out of despair? “I love you, please don’t leave,” that kind of compliment would be acceptable. Otherwise, it would just feel… cheap.

I don’t want them telling me how pretty I am, or listing the reasons they like me. I want to contemplate the mystery of someone being attached to me. I don’t need a rational explanation for their feelings — that doesn’t evoke any emotion in me. I just need to see their feelings in action. To contemplate someone by my side without even knowing the reason they’re there, and even so, they keep showing more and more signs of attachment toward me, making me feel like I belong to them.
