I can feel my skin

I’ve read Subarashiki Hibi twice in my life (more than anyone I know), and I can say this: it’s mid.

It has its high points, like the iconic OST, interesting characters, and one of my favorite characters in all VNs, Yuki, but the story itself is mid and poorly written. Sca-ji throws around a lot of philosophical soup; he tries to flex everything he knows about philosophy and basically vomits it into the visual novel. It feels weird because not all the philosophical talk in the VN is actually related to the plot. So you’ll be reading a specific part of the story, and suddenly you stumble onto some philosophical point about “the girl who is the world itself,” and then the subject shifts completely without adding anything meaningful to the plot.

I see Subahibi as a result of Evangelion, and it is quite accurate. Tsui no Sora was inspired by Evangelion back in the 90s. Evangelion opened the experimental anime era where authors had the freedom to experiment with a lot of things and introduce philosophical or more complex themes. Tsui no Sora is the OG Subarashiki. It also has a lot of philosophical talk, but it is much more direct than Subarashiki Hibi, and I consider Tsui no Sora superior for this reason. Subarashiki Hibi is the remake of Tsui no Sora, and Sca-ji thought he was a better and more experienced writer at the time, capable of creating a better version of Tsui no Sora. So he remade his work while flexing all the philosophical knowledge he had gathered just to show his audience, “hey guys, look how much I’ve matured and how intelligent I’ve become.” It’s pretentious and disastrous. Sca-ji was also depressed at the time, so he wrote a very fatalistic novel filled with hopeless moments, such as all the Zakuro suffering arc. He wrote that out of depression, not out of any legitimate thematic point.

do I recommend it?
ofc, but it's quite big, something around 70h

Even if subahibi is not that great, is still a remarkable experience. Something very unique and I believe you should be aiming for unique VNs that will give you unique experiences, this is the most important trait of a visual novel.

(this is a screenshot of my second playthrough, it has 53h because I skipped some routes I've already seen before. Even tho, it's still long af)
Angara-9
is there an incest route...?
yes
very short, very straight forward
one of the simplest routes tbh
not much interesting — only meaningful for those who want to see the h-scenes

It doesn't make this arc bad, it's an extremely interesting representation of what depression feels like, you can see even his disbelief in God on this arc, with a mocker-like god showing up just to mock Zakuro and all her suffering.
I'm just telling that, there's no point in the plot itself, it is just a demonstration of depression.
I think we need something...
