I just thought of this... If you order a versatube building like we did, be sure to select the high wind option. Standard wind speed is 90mph and the building will have 5' between wall studs. if you opt for 110mph wind rating you will get 4' wall spacing which makes framing out the inside much easier. I was fortunate to have a company nearby that made aluminum composite panels that were 16' long so I could span 3 5' wall studs with one panel. No such luck with standard sheets of plywood.

Sometimes we talk gardening here. Some times we talk solar. And sometimes we talk politics that are related to why we want to separate from the system. Watch this video and ask yourself why didn't folks in 1933 revolt when FDR took their gold. The answer is everyone was reeling in the middle of the great depression. Poeple were financially "distracted" and it was easier to just accept the new law and move on. Hell I should not even say new law because Congress didn't vote on it. FDR signed an executive order May 1 1933 making the possession of gold punishable by jail time.
The takeaway from this is that they never make these changes when it's a nice time for the citizens. It's always when you are reeling from some huge financial problem that they caused. Keep your ear to the ground for what's going on now and BE PREPARED for the day when a bank holiday is declared and you find your bank account has been converted to some digital dollar.

Got all holes augered today and excess dirt moved away. Pallet of concrete finally arrived at 2pm and we only had time to set one row of posts.
The way we're setting posts is mixing 4 bags of concrete in a mixer and dumping it in the hole. I've got strings run at the top and bottom of the corner / end posts. I simply lower our pipes into the wet concrete bobbing the pipes up and down to get concrete inside them as well. When they almost touch the two strings, I know they are plumb. Got 9 posts in a perfect row today.
Tomorrow we'll do the other row of posts and mark the holes for mounting the panel supports with a laser level.
Although he is building 3 identical arrays, I want to build one complete to make sure there are no unforseen issues before we build the other two. We'll have a concrete party one satuday with some local guys in the community.

50v On the Hot and 70v On the Neutral (Is This Safe?)
In this video I will go over why we're getting strange voltage readings on our generators and battery power stations. With up to 70v on the neutral and only 50v on the hot .. is that actually safe? I'll also answer my most asked question.. Should you haveβ¦

This is exactly why I do not like this battery style I have seen this happen a hundred times not only to myself but multiple other people do not buy batteries like this only by the ones with studs on the top do not buy the ones with bolt holes either Wes can say and tell you they are nothing but a problem also you only want batteries with studs already put in
π2
And yeah if you get lucky and get them all installed they won't last very long because these batteries do expand and contract as they charge and discharge and yes flexible connectors do help but it's never an end stop they will eventually fail and then you have to replace and rebuild the whole pack

Project today... bury hoses and spigots to the new troughs we installed 3 months ago. It's one of those things I procrastinated on. gunna get a hard frost tomorrow night, so I got them below the frost line of 3". Each of our troughs are buried about 8"-12" deep with a float valve on the bottom. I took the ball off the rod it was attached to and connected with a length of small chain. Now the valve is well below the frost line and the ball floats around the top of the though.
Also put a 800lbs bale of hay in the hay manger for the goats.

Here's how I install a float valve in my troughs to prevent freeze damage to the valve.
Forwarded from Off The Grid (Wesla Johnkowski)
This 110 gallon water trough has become our standard trough for the pastures. It's about 2' deep so we dig down 18". There's a float valve on the bottom below the frost line. I use a 3/4" nylon bushing to penetrate the wall and hold the valve. From there it's easy to connect a buried garden hose. You can buy lifting eyes in metric to screw on to the ball and onto the rod. A short length of chain and you are off and running.
