29 GOP Lawmakers Warn White House on Ukraine Aid as Zelensky Visits Washington

'We are in receipt of your August 10, 2023 request for additional supplemental appropriations, in which you ask Congress to provide another $24 billion in security, economic, and humanitarian assistance related to the war in Ukraine.

Your request cites President Biden’s pledge that “we will stand with Ukraine as it defends its sovereignty for as long as it takes.” ... PunchBowl News has received a background quote from a senior administration official stating the White House “won’t be bashful about going back to the Congress beyond the first quarter of next year.” He stated that the official “[s]tresses this [funding request] is only for [Quarter] 1.”

These statements imply an open-ended commitment to supporting the war in Ukraine of an indeterminate nature, based on a strategy that is unclear, to achieve a goal yet to be articulated to the public or the Congress.

The American people deserve to know what their money has gone to.

How is the counteroffensive going?

Are the Ukrainians any closer to victory than they were 6 months ago?

What is our strategy, and what is the president’s exit plan?

What does the administration define as victory in Ukraine?

What assistance has the United States provided Ukraine under Title 10?

It would be an absurd abdication of congressional responsibility to grant this request without knowing the answers to these questions. For these reasons—and certainly until we receive answers to the questions above and others forthcoming—we oppose the additional expenditure for war in Ukraine included in your request.

The Biden administration is being sued by a conservative legal group over its failure to turn over records in connection to its investigation into Elon Musk's X, formerly known as Twitter, according to a complaint.

America First Legal, which is led by ex-Trump administration officials, sent a Freedom of Information Act request in March to the Federal Trade Commission to obtain a trove of documents on the Twitter inquiry, which was reopened in late 2022 and pertains to its privacy and data security practices. But because the top regulator denied the organization's records case appeal in mid-September, America First Legal filed a lawsuit on Thursday against the FTC for purportedly withholding information in violation of federal law.

Hunter Biden will appear on Oct. 3 in a federal court in Wilmington, Delaware, to face gun charges, a judge ordered on Wednesday, in the first-ever prosecution of a sitting U.S. president's child.

Noreika earlier on Wednesday had scheduled the hearing for Sept. 26, but moved the date to Oct. 3 following a request by Biden's lawyers, according to an order from the judge.

Several high-level allies of President Donald Trump -- including Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel and Trump adviser Boris Epshteyn -- could potentially be called as witnesses in the first Georgia election interference trial next month, according to a court filing in the case.

McDaniel and Epshteyn were among 52 names that were submitted on a list of potential witnesses and evidence filed Thursday by attorneys for defendant Kenneth Chesebro, who is set to begin trial alongside Sidney Powell on Oct. 23.

While not all of the names are certain to be called to testify, the filing provides a hint as to the possible scope of the trial.

Also on the list are a number of the so-called "alternate electors" who were not charged as part of Fulton County District Attorney Fani Wills' indictment.

A third IRS official confirmed that Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss faced roadblocks when attempting to bring charges against Hunter Biden, contradicting denials issued Wednesday by Attorney General Merrick Garland.

IRS Director of Field Operations Michael Batdorf told the House Ways and Means Committee in a closed-door interview on Sept. 12 that he felt “frustrated” by the refusal of the Justice Department to approve tax charges that IRS agents viewed as well-supported by evidence, according to a transcript of the interview obtained by the Washington Examiner.

A fourth IRS official has told Congress about roadblocks that now-special counsel David Weiss faced last year in attempting to bring charges against Hunter Biden outside his district in Delaware.

Darrell Waldon, the former IRS special agent in charge of the agency’s Washington field office, told the House Ways and Means Committee in a closed-door interview earlier this month about a number of challenges he witnessed during his two years on the case, according to a transcript of the interview obtained by the Washington Examiner.

The chairman of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee tells Just the News he plans to soon make public new testimony that corroborates IRS whistleblowers' accounts of interference in the Hunter Biden probe and new evidence to support the nascent impeachment inquiry against President Joe Biden.

House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith (R-Mo.) said Thursday his panel will hold a vote to make the new information available, including testimonies from two IRS agents who back the accounts of whistleblowers Gary Shapley and Joseph Ziegler about slow-walking and interference in the Hunter Biden tax case.

Attorneys for Donald Trump and the office of New York Attorney General Letitia James will argue over the scope of the forthcoming trial in the state's civil suit against the president before a New York judge Friday.

The pretrial hearing began just after 10 a.m. ET, with New York Supreme Court Judge Arthur Engoron outlining that he will be reviewing motions for summary judgment from both sides. Trump's lawyers have asked for all 7 causes of action in the New York attorney general's complaint to be dismissed, and James claims that the defendants have made frivolous arguments, Engoron said.

Hunter Biden's hotshot lawyer has been accused of involvement in a 'brazen coverup' and 'far-reaching conspiracy' to violate court orders, hide documents, and encourage a witness to lie under oath.

Attorney Abbe Lowell is accused in court documents filed last Friday of secretly working for Middle East nation Qatar in a scheme to conceal communications about an alleged computer hacking plot.

It is another example of Lowell getting embroiled in allegations of shady dealings with foreign nations – after emails published by Daily Mail earlier this year showed the Justice Department scrutinized his links with suspected Chinese spies.

Lowell did not respond to a request for comment.
