RE:COVID-19: NYSC IGNORES CALLS TO CLOSE ORIENTATION CAMPS BECAUSE CONTRACTORS WILL LOSE SOURCE
The attention of NYSC Management has been drawn to a story with the above caption making the rounds on the social media.
Management wishes to state that the story in its entirety is full of inconsistencies, lacking in facts and accuracy.
Management hereby states that in March, 2020, guided by the Scheme's cardinal policy of prioritising the welfare and safety of Corps Members, staff and collaborating agencies, shutdown the 37 camps of the Scheme across the 36 States of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory. The proactive move which was devoid of prod from any quarter was to safeguard the Corps Members and NYSC Officials from contracting the dreaded Coronavirus, an action in consonance with the afore stated policy of the Corps.
In November, 2020, the Scheme after putting in place necessary measures for safe reopening of camps, and guided by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) reopened its camps.
It is imperative to restate that everyone coming into the NYSC camps must undergo COVID-19 test, Corps Members and officials alike. Only those that test negative are admitted into the camps.
The same measures adopted for the November and December, 2020 Orientation Courses are going to be applied to the 2020 Batch "B" Stream II Orientation Course commencing, Tuesday, 19th January, 2021, with stricter enforcement of all the safety protocols. The NYSC and NCDC are working closely for a successful exercise as recorded previously.
Accordingly, members of the general public are advised to disregard the unbalanced and cooked-up reportage designed to deliberately create fear and panic in the minds of unsuspecting Nigerians.
Management shall continue to give priority attention to the welfare of Corps Members and Officials.

You must set out very early to the Orientation camps in order to get to your destinations on time, latest, 6pm.
If the journey will take you beyond 6pm to arrive at your destination, kindly break the journey.
Ensure that you board a vehicle from approved motorparks. Doing otherwise may make you susceptible to robbery attack, kidnapping, either for ransom or ritual etc.
While on the journey, never receive edibles from strangers as the food may have been laced with substance that will make you lose consciousness.
Be mindful of how you chat on phone as you may unwittingly give out classified personal information to criminals posing as co-passengers, thereby putting yourself on harm’s way.
Avoid every form of discussion on politics, whether for or against any party. Such is capable of inflaming tempers.
Never get involved on discussion bordering on criminalities in the country; Boko Haram, robbery, kidnapping as you don’t know the people you are travelling with.
Keep your friends and family updated on your movement. Keep your credentials secure. Preferably carry them on you.
Ensure that your travelling bags and luggage are locked and secured.
Never give your phone to a stranger to make calls. That person may be a kidnapper, robber or terrorist. Such call can implicate you on what you know nothing about.
Write down all emergency phone numbers.
Be aware of your clothing. Dress responsibly and in conformity with the culture/religion of the region you have been deployed.
In the event of any untoward happening, don’t try to be a hero. Look for escape route.
When you arrive the Orientation camps, abide by all the rules and regulations guiding the NYSC camp.
Ensure that you observe all the COVID-19 safety guidelines that has been put in place by the management of the scheme with the aim of protecting all Course participants from contracting the deadly virus.
