When I think about what the world will look like in the future, the models I fall back on are the typical settings we see in movies like Star Wars, The Matrix, and Terminator.

In December 2024, a Romanian court cancelled the second round of the planned Presidential election and annulled the completed first round, citing (totally theoretical) “Russian interference”.

Today is March 9th. It is also the UK’s ordained “Day of Reflection” on the Covid pandemic. You’d be forgiven for forgetting that, most of the country did the same.
Why March 9th?
I’m not sure. It would make much more sense to date it to March 26th, the day Lockdown came into force…but maybe that would be seen as an admission in and of itself. Since, without lockdown, there would have been very little evidence of any pandemic at all.

The digital ruble should be used for control: Refreshing honesty from senior Russian lawmaker
Restrictions on how digital rubles can be spent will be gradually introduced after the Bank of Russia’s CBDC enters mass circulation, Anatoly Aksakov, head of the State Duma Committee on Financial Markets, told Rossiyskaya Gazeta in an interview.
The senior lawmaker revealed that the Russian government was already discussing “possible usage scenarios” for the digital ruble, which can be programmed to limit or prohibit certain kinds of purchases.

I was at the ballet the other night, yes, the ballet. It was the Canadian Ballet Company’s production of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake. Before the ballet started, the orchestra struck up a thundering version of Canada’s national anthem, O Canada.
I knew the ballet had not yet started because I was aware that Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece did not begin with a drum roll. This rendition of O Canada most certainly did.

You can’t have it both ways. You can’t live in a constitutional republic if you allow the government to act like a police state. You can’t claim to value freedom if you allow the government to operate like a dictatorship.
You can’t expect to have your rights respected if you allow the government to treat whomever it pleases with disrespect and an utter disregard for the rule of law.
