This Week in the New Normal #63

Our successor to This Week in the Guardian, This Week in the New Normal is our weekly chart of the progress of autocracy, authoritarianism and economic restructuring around the world.

1. Britain’s “astonishing” rise in heart problems

Three days ago Sky News reports a story on a 50% increase irregular heart beats in the UK, under the headline:

‘Astonishing’ rise in Britons with an irregular heartbeat – these are the main warning signs

Apparently, according to the British heart foundation, “there ha[s] been an astonishing 50% rise in cases [of atrial fibrillation]…...

Toxic Contagion – Funds, Food and Pharma

Colin Todhunter

In 2014, the organisation GRAIN revealed that small farms produce most of the world’s food in its report Hungry for land: small farmers feed the world with less than a quarter of all farmland.

The report Small-scale Farmers and Peasants Still Feed the World (ETC Group, 2022) confirmed this.

Small farmers produce up to 80% of the food in the non-industrialised countries. However, they are currently squeezed onto less than a quarter of the world’s farmland. The period 1974-2014 saw 140 million hectares – more than all the farmland in…...

Sucharit Bhakdi & the prosecution of “thought crime”

Eminent and influential “covid” skeptic Dr Sucharit Bhakdi is about to be prosecuted tomorrow, May 23, under German law for:

1. having incited hatred against a religious group and attacked the human dignity of others by insulting and maliciously disparaging that religious group, while acting in concert in a manner likely to disturb the public peace; and
2. having publicly trivialized an act committed under the rule of National Socialism of the kind described in Section 6 (1) of the International Criminal Code in a manner likely to disturb public peace.

Now you may or may not…...

"...As must be clear to everyone, even Mr Willing, Bhakdi does not agree the “vaccination” is “harmless”. This is his entire point. He is absolutely not belittling the genocide of the Nazis, quite the reverse, he is giving his opinion that the vax will end up being another genocide just as terrible.

This is, of course, his real crime, and the one that can never be stated, because even discussing that possibility is simply too dangerous for the agenda-managers right now..."

Shutdown or Not, the Police State Will Continue to Flourish

John Whitehead

“There is no more dangerous menace to civilization than a government of incompetent, corrupt, or vile men.”
Ludwig von Mises

Once again, the police state is up to its old tricks, stoking tensions over whether or not the government is forced to shut down, even partially, due to a default on the national debt.

Yet while these political games dominate news headlines, send the stock market into a nosedive, and put federal employees at risk of having to work without pay, nothing about these high-handed theatrics will diminish the immediate and very real…...

The War on Reality (Revisited)

CJ hopkins

Reality isn’t what it used to be. It never really was, but that’s another story.

This one isn’t about reality per se. It’s about the War on Reality, the one we’re in the middle of, the war that started when the War on Terror was cancelled in the Summer of 2016. It’s actually an extension and an evolution of the War on Terror, and the War on Populism, and the rollout of the New Normal in 2020 … but that is also another story.

I want to focus on the war that is raging currently, on the…...

BBC admits to using "undercover accounts" to "interrogate" people's social media.

Spying? Trolling? Entrapping? Harassing private citizens?

Is this allowed under the BBC charter?

April's temperature averages are out and which one will be circulated? In one, the base period for data collection is 30 years and in the other it's over the entire 20th century.

The world has been warming gradually since the turn of the last century as it climbed out of the "mini ice age" (remember images of skaters on the frozen River Thames?) We are expected to believe that the warming started from some ideal base rate. No. Instead, the temperatures in the last 20-30 years have not increased overall. In fact, they are trending down. Who is spreading misinformation in reality?

China’s “summer Davos” 2023

Next month the World Economic Forum will be hosting its “Summer Davos” in Tianjin, China.

Described as the “Annual Meeting of the New Champions”, this has been an important yearly WEF event since 2010, always hosted somewhere in China.

"The Annual Meeting of the New Champions creates a unique platform to boost innovation and strengthen collaborative efforts on a global level."

OffG’s Quick Take: White House Truck Attack – A LITERAL False Flag?

Perhaps you heard, on Monday night a man allegedly attempted to ram a U-Haul truck into the White House railings, with the avowed intent of killing the President.

He didn’t quite get that far, naturally.

The man was later identified as one “Sai Varshith Kandula”, a Missouri man of Indian descent. According to reports in multiple papers his plan was tokill Joe Biden and seize power. Apparently he thinks Washington works like Wakanda.

Unbelievably, he also allegedly claims crashing an empty moving van into some railings took six months of planning.

According to police, Kandula – a…...

We all know about the danger of a future society where we’re all tracked everywhere we go every single day in real time by our phones or devices…but actually, it’s worse than that!

You’re already being tracked everywhere you go, every day, and it doesn’t matter whether you leave your phone at home just as long as you bring your face. OffG’s Quick Take: Mizzy, the walking strawman

Another day, another quick take. This one is about “Mizzy”. For anyone out of the loop, “Mizzy” is UK-based Tik-Toker who has enjoyed a somewhat meteoric rise to fame. Too meteoric to be natural, you might say.

I’ll lay it all out for you, and you can decide for yourself how organic this sudden celebrity may be.

As of this time last week, literally almost nobody in the whole world had heard of “Mizzy” – real name Bacari Ogarro – an 18 year old “prankster” whose only claim to fame had been an arrest for assault after stealing…...

In the days before…

So we’re having a Dogwood Spring some would say here in this part of the world. Early in the morning the ground frosts the edges of leaves and the bright taste of the cool air catches at memories of times passed.

Around us, despite our human scampering and musing, nature still does what it does so far, although some say it won’t always. The point would be right now, just for the moment, it does what it does.

We linger in its benevolence and its grace. It watches…...

Catte’s Corner: Covid, virus theory & the painted goat

Catte Black

Imagine…A man has sold you what he claims is a black goat.

You take it home and discover it’s not a black goat at all, it’s a white goat painted in Dulux black emulsion.

You have two options to show the man deceived you so you can get your money back.

1. Prove THIS goat isn’t black, the man who sold it to you just painted it in order to defraud you.

2. Prove the longstanding theory there are actually NO black goats at all anywhere, just a lot of white goats painted black.…...

Blinded by the Next Great Thing

Todd Hayen,/h6>

I must be missing a chip in my brain or something. Why have I never been blown away by the advances in technology that attempt to replace humans? I mean, I am fascinated by the next great robot vacuum cleaner, or a car that will pick you up after you’ve had your fine cricket dinner at the Four Seasons, but my fascination dissipates quickly.

Cell phones, computers, and crap like that are interesting….but when I hear about AI art, robots, or synthesized orchestras, my blood runs cold.

This seems to have always been true for me, even…...

Who really wants AI…and why?

TE Creus

I’ve noticed that self-checkout is taking over more and more shops and supermarkets. They have existed for a while, of course, but more as an alternative to reduce lines, but now many shops have exclusively self-checkout machines.

Yet, self-checkout appears not to be very effective or convenient, neither for shops nor for customers. Many customers tend to dislike self-checkout, as evidenced by the fact that there are always lines for human cashiers but none for self-checkouts. They give you the perception of more speed, but it is just illusory. Professional human cashiers scan and move your products…...

Remembering the Paris Commune

Catte Black

The original version of this article was first published in the before times – back in the heady days of 2015 – when OffG was only a few weeks old, and our readership could be counted on fingers an inattentive lathe operator. Since, this year, the anniversary falls on a Sunday, making it 152 years literally to the day, we thought it was time to bring this back. Its relevance has not diminished, only grown, now that the “violence inherent in the system” has been so freshly demonstrated on a global scale in the past few years.…...
