“Arcturus Variant”: Russia revives Covid scam, right on cue

Riley Waggaman

Russia is bracing for a wave of highly infectious Arcturus, the newest and trendiest “COVID subvariant”, Rospotrebnadzor chief Anna Popova announced on Thursday.

Fellow BRICS member India is currently experiencing an “intense” outbreak of this computer model, and Russia—which has already registered four confirmed cases!—should expect its own Arcturus surge by the end of May, Popova predicted.

A sharp uptick in hospitalizations is not anticipated, but just in case, Russia’s healthcare system is ready for “additional stress and overload,” she reassured the public.

Do ordinary Russians care at all about the Dreaded Virus? No. But the…...

WATCH: National Citizens Inquiry – #SolutionsWatch

The National Citizens Inquiry is a citizen-led and citizen-funded initiative that is hearing testimony from Canadians and experts examining the nature, the legality and the effects of the Canadian governments’ COVID mandates and restrictions.

In the most recent episode of #SolutionsWatch, James Corbett talks to the volunteer-run inquiry’s volunteer communications director, Michelle Leduc Catlin, about the inquiry itself, what it is seeking to accomplish and how Canadians (and people around the world) can support it in its endeavours.

BBC Musk

iain Davis

There is a whiff of desperation in the air and it is emanating from the BBC. In a car crash of an interview, reminiscent of Kathy Newman’s self-immolating attempt to shoot down Jordan Peterson for Channel 4, the BBC’s North America Technology reporter, James Clayton, similarly implodedin the face of perfectly reasonable questions from Elon Musk.

Elon Musk is supposedly one of the richest people on Earth. His purchase of Twitter has brought some public attention to the issue of free speech in so-called democracies.

Musk initially became fabulously…...

Remembering Graeme MacQueen

Kevin Ryan

In the summer of 2006, at the newly formed Journal of 9/11 Studies, we received a submission from a Canadian professor named Graeme MacQueen. The paper was entitled “118 Witnesses: The Firefighter’s Testimony to Explosions in the Twin Towers.” After peer-review comments were addressed, it was published and has become one of the most important articles in the 9/11 literature.

For the next seventeen years, Graeme went on to lead the 9/11 truth movement through his outstanding scholarship, his thoughtful approach, and his ability to instill trust in colleagues. Along with his remarkable…...

On the Day of Departure

Edward Curtin

Photo by Mantas Hesthaven on Unsplash

For my dear friend, Graeme MacQueen, the great 9/11 writer, who departed yesterday from life’s mystery to the other.

When you are ready
And the day dawns
Remember how love
Wraps you in its arms
And the sweet sound
Of grace lifts you up
Lighter than a feather
And places you onboard
The silent ship that sails
Calmly out to sea. Listen
To us calling, “Bon Voyage,
Let us know when you arrive”

Why not the zebra long-winged butterfly?

Sylvia Shawcross

Some things keep us up at night such as the horrifying thought that if they eliminate all this carbon stuff, 20,000 years from now they won’t be able to carbon date our sorry bones.

This is all because of that scary meme—the one that says WE humans are the carbon They are trying to eliminate so they can replace us with robots.

We will have ended history in that sense. They’ll disappear us bones and all. We won’t even have the indignity of being dug up like dinosaurs in some distant time and displayed in glass cases.…...

Poverty and Crisis: Sucking Humanity Dry

Colin Todhunter

The World Bank says nearly 80% (560 million) of the 700 million people who were pushed into extreme poverty in 2020 due to COVID policies were from India. Globally, extreme poverty levels increased by 9.3 per cent in 2020.

In 2022, it was estimated that a quarter of a billion people across the world would be pushed into absolute poverty in that year alone.

In the UK, poverty is increasing in two-thirds of communities, as millions go without heat and skip meals. Due to the ‘cost-of-living crisis’, 10.5 million are experiencing financial…...

I Am a Camera

Todd Hayen

Photo by Artem Beliaikin on Unsplash

I have stolen this title from the stage play of the same name based on Christopher Isherwood’s 1939 novel Goodbye to Berlin. The title is taken from a quote in the novel’s first page: “I am a camera with its shutter open, quite passive, recording, not thinking.”

This describes a bit of what I am now experiencing—all but the “not thinking” part. Isherwood was observing life in 1933 (or thereabouts) Germany, right when the country was embracing the maniacal power of Adolf Hitler and…...

This Week in the New Normal #62

Our successor to This Week in the Guardian, This Week in the New Normal is our weekly chart of the progress of autocracy, authoritarianism and economic restructuring around the world.

1. Ireland’s attack on Free speech

Last November the Criminal Justice (Incitement to Violence or Hatred and Hate Offences) Bill was presented to the Irish Oireachtas. Among other things, the bill was written…

to provide for an offence of condoning, denying or grossly trivialising genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity and crimes against peace

Other offences under the act would include…...

The Great Divide

CJ Hopkins

Robert Kennedy, Jr. is running for president. I could not possibly be more excited. So, I’m going to give Bobby some unsolicited advice, which, if he knows what’s good for him, he will not take.

I feel OK about doing this because, even if Bobby, in the wee hours of the night, when the mind is vulnerable to dangerous ideas, were to seriously consider taking my advice, I am sure he has people — i.e., PR people, campaign strategists, pollsters, and so on — that would not hesitate to take him aside and disabuse him of any…...

Who Wants a Brain Machine Interface?

VN Alexander

I’ve never wanted to be able to control any of my devices with my thoughts. I am perfectly happy to use a physical interface that I can turn off, let go of, or walk away from. What about you? Is your keyboard holding you back? Is your mouse slowing you down? Do you want to just think a post without having to thumb it in? Why is cyborgian tech being pushed so hard on us?

Did anyone ask for it? Does anyone need it?

In this essay, I will look at the ethicists who are raising concerns…...

OffG’s Quick Take: AI & the Writer’s Strike

Yesterday evening the US union the Writers’ Guild of America went on strike. The most immediate impact of this is that all the late-night “comedy” talk shows – Colbert, Fallon, Kimmel, Meyers – have gone on hiatus.

I know, I was heartbroken too.

How this may impact the already flagging entertainment industry – one which never really recovered from Covid lockdowns – is hard to predict…but also not really interesting.

Honestly, for years now the movies/television industry has had no apparent interest in actually making profits and is almost certainly propped up via government subsidies and ESG…...

Kremlin “Drone Attack”: The silly, the stupid, the annoying & the infuriating

Kit Knightly

Yesterday evening, the Russian Government claims, two drones attacked the Kremlin with the intention of assassinating President Vladimir Putin. The Russians assert these drones were sent by the Ukrainian government.

The drones were allegedly picked up by the Kremlin’s air defenses and blown to pieces before they could do any harm. The Russian government supplied the below video:

The response to this news so far is a combination of silly, stupid, annoying and infuriating.

Firstly, there’s the alleged plan itself…

it was exceedingly silly.

Making no comment on who and/or what was responsible,…...

It Is All Sushi

Sylvia Shawcross

I understand Easter Island now.

Those heads and bodies huge on the horizon of the islands staring magnificently out to the world as if to say “I am here.” Waiting for the ships. Waiting for friend or foe to arrive with all their foreign ways and presumptive gods and pretzels. So they can stand there on that isolated lonely shore resolute in stone with nothing to explain but who they were and that they exist. Made by conviction and faith and communal resolve. To stand in testament. To stand as stone against the moving sky and restless…...

I wonder when certain ostensibly alt-media journalists, analysts, and commentators in/from the West will grow up and finally start covering the war in Ukraine within the province of reality (i.e., outside the realm of dubious YouTube maps and unsourced death counts that are spun ad nauseam into "Russia is winning").

At this point, they likely never will.

Why? Perhaps because they don’t want to taint their ideological loyalties and loyal fanbases with reality’s ugliness:
