So warmer weather is here, gardening season and ultimately water rationing at times for many. It's also a fantastic time to look back on winter and implement those tweaks and changes to make next winter better....
Heating.
What about a diesel heater that you can switch on remotely from your bed on those cold mornings?
What about a log burner, either a new one or look out for those bargains online.
Water.
Do you have enough, what about more catchment or finding another source?
Leaks and damp, make use of the longer days and dryer weather now rather than the dark, wet winter days.
There's always plenty to do.

Major power outages have been reported across large areas of Europe in France, Spain and Portugal. These areas are also good for solar power as are we in England at the moment but you can be sure that the majority of people had no provisions for backup power. Remember it's not just your domestic systems that need power, it's also many more including petrol pumps and water processing and pumping along with banking/ATMs and EPOS (retail) systems.

Regarding power outages and other events it's worthwhile noting that in the event, they may be reliant on our reactions and to use them against us so be extremely cautious and thoughtful, spread positivity and peace rather than fear and disruption.

Generators.
If I was on a budget and wanted a backup generator to power just essentials such as a freezer for a few hours each day I would probably buy something like this one.
Remember you'll also need oil and fuel, and do the first oil change sooner rather than later because you're 'rinsing' out anything left from manufacturing and bedding in...so buy a couple of litres of oil and not just one.

They prefer E5 over E10, that's superunleaded rather than standard unleaded.
When filling with oil you usually fill to the edge (or close) of the oil fill port.
To drain the oil for an oil change there's often a nut in the engine casing at the side/bottom, likely under the fill port depending on engine block.
The air filter is normally a piece of sponge inside a plastic box near the choke, they work better at trapping dirt if they are 'damp' from oil. Take out the sponge, drip some oil onto it and squeeze it so the oil is absorbed.
The choke lever often needs to be in the 'on' position when first starting but off soon after.
There's likely a fuel shutoff valve/lever so check that is on for use and off when not.
Don't be surprised if it takes a few pulls to get it going first time. Some have electric start if you have a bad back and some of them are even remote controlled.
Any problems or questions just ask.

There's no plans for fees (beyond diesel costs if needed) and a cuppa and I'll be pleased to help as much as possible even if that's pointing out limitations or best options. This isn't an ploy for income, it's simply recognising that there's people out there who may need help. Don't panic, don't get carried away by hype or unnecessary costs, don't start buying expensive tools you may only need a couple of times....let someone who has already been through it all take the stress away.
