FM is frequency modulation, that means the strength of signal stays the same but the information in encoded in a variation of the frequency at that point.
AM is amplitude modulation, that means the sine wave increases or decreases in amplitude/size at that frequency which is how it's encoded.
SSB, single sideband is like AM but it only uses half of the signal and the middle part is normally chopped off (suppressed) hence it sounds different. It can be the Upper or Lower portion of the signal...USB or LSB.
Bandwidth and Frequency are similar, they describe the frequency or Bandwidth that the signal is transmitted at or the receiver is tuned to. With SSB you use a Clarifier to fine tune this to get. SSB gets better long distance communication and the preferred calling frequency is USB 27.555Mhz.
SWR is Standing Wave Ratio and shows how much of the transmitted power is being reflected back into the transmitter from the antenna. This isn't healthy for the transmitter and the more output power you use the worse the damage, hence the need to tune the antenna.

I've been to Red Lodge Farm (Wakefield) today and can confirm they don't and won't be using it. They have had a lot of people contacting them about it but I wanted to speak to them face to face. They also confirmed that they no longer supply any dairies and are soley point of sale to customers and local customer deliveries, I think that is a fantastic victory showing that local support really makes a difference.

Points that may be relevant at the moment may be generators, log burners and solar/backup power systems. There have been some interesting developments with solar systems including new technology solar panels and charge controllers that are beneficial for the British weather and anywhere else that has decreasing sunlight. I'll put a post together in the next day or so with a basic package for solar power at the best prices I can find.
