"The Gaelic League has worked to give back to the Irish people their mother-tongue and their native culture: the result of these cultural and humanistic studies has been a new racial vitality โ the spiritual, economic and social renaissance of the Irish Gaels. Thus viewed, the movement inaugurated and promoted by the Gaelic League in Ireland is seen to be no anaemic literary fad but essentially a method and means for the spiritual enfranchisement of a brilliantly gifted race."

โThe result is not merely to cut us off from a heroic Celtic worldโas bright as the pages of Scott and more authentic than those of Herodotusโbut to make Irish Nationality an affair of yesterday, an invention of the last English-speaking hundred years, and to surrender those higher landmarks and title-deeds of national individuality which we derive from laws and institutions, and modes of thought all but as ancient and unalterable as the ocean cliffs that secure our Island's throne of nationhood."
William O'Brien criticises "anglicised" Irish nationalism, noting contemporary excessive reliance on Tone and Davis, to the exclusion of the Gaelic tradition.

Surprisingly, the first Irish-language version of the 1916 Proclamation was written by Gearรณid ร Cuinneagรกin, founder of Ailtirรญ na hAisรฉirghe, in their newspaper Aisรฉirรญ in 1941 for the 25th anniversary of the Rising.
Official translation only adopted into state in 1959. Reasons for 1916 Leaders only having English draft was purely pragmatic, being read it in the middle of O'Connell Street and all.

Grace O' Malley was known as the Pirate Queen, and lived in the 16th century. She was the daughter of O'Malley clan chieftain, located in South West of Co Mayo. She was one of the foremost heroine of her time. Her clan controlled the sea routes along the West Coasts of Ireland.
She was married at a young age, to the head of the O'Flaherty clan. When he got killed, she took charge of both clans. She remarries, later on, with Richard Burke, another powerful irish clan chief. But the marriage was short lived.
As England was gaining control over Ireland, Grace was taking pressure, and turned to piracy, blockading Galway port. When the english governor Connaught captured her 2 sons, she sailed to England, to speak to Queen Elizabeth, directly. They met in Greenwich. Grace refuses to bow. They agreed to a truce: if Grace stops attacking english sheeps and switches to spanish ones, her sons would be returned. The Queen kept her side of the bargain.
Grace died at Rockfleet Castle in 1603.

Along with the Official Handbook of the Saorstรกt (see reply), the Free State government also commissioned 'The Book of the Resurrection (Leabhar na hAisรฉirighe)' in 1924. Initial funding also came from Joseph McGarrity, a Clann na nGael activist in the United States
Was a 20th-century illuminated manuscript made via traditional means to commemorate the leaders of the 1916 Easter Rising, and others who died during the Irish War of Independence and "a national memorial to the memory of the heroes who [had] given their lives for the attainment of the absolute independence of Ireland since Easter Week 1916."
Art O'Murnaghan was the artist selected to do it. The manuscript is held by the National Museum of Ireland with few pages in museums around the world.
Imagine if we achieved full freedom and the energy wasn't sapped by the retardation of the Treaty and tragedy of Civil War.

Scattered throughout Scotland and now in poor condition are a large number of forts called Brochs. They appear to date from the second century but others may even be a lot older. The Brochs are of Celtic origin and would probably have been built long before the Romans came to Britain.
The walls would be between 12 feet and 15 feet thick, and the tower would be as high as 45 to 60 feet. The tower would generally enclose a narrow courtyard and there would be one entrance which was low and narrow leading straight through to the courtyard.
One of the best preserved Brochs - a round tower dating from the Iron Age - can be seen at Mousa in Shetland off the coast of Scotland

If the races were reversed, the regime would be feasting off this clip for weeks. Instead they'll mobilise to cover it up and protect the vermin.
This is the same Alamin in Kilkenny from the clip above, beating an Irish kid, then forcing him to kneel before continuing the assault.
