🗣️ A message from an NYU student to NYU president Linda Kills:



Hello,

I am an NYU student who was in the Gould Plaza Gaza Solidarity Encampment, 1PP Jail Support, and Washington Square Community Walkout. I am not with any organizations/collectives/coalitions nor am I an organizer myself. I attended these actions as an individual who has an unrelenting passion about Palestinian liberation. I have been taught since my childhood that muslims were not welcome in a Post-9/11 America. However, I innocently expected for a country for which I am a citizen of, to not brutally abuse and misuse their resources against their own people.

That unfortunately is not the case.

On Wednesday, April 24th 2024, I received notice that the FBI/CIA has images of me protesting. Furthermore, I was alerted to the fact that my devices were being tracked, tapped, and monitored. This egregious violation of my privacy as an individual by the government in which is meant to allow me the right to “peaceful assembly” is a hypocritical reality of the modern US.

To President Kills, you have allowed for my rights as a human being to be violated at your command, and for that, history will never forgive you. I want you to know that you will live in infamy as the tyrannical person who allowed her own students to be brutalized by authorities & for caring more about the profits of war rather than its victims.

For all those continuing with more actions, and staying strong for our Palestinian siblings, I want you to know that history is on our side; the side of the Palestinian people.

APRIL 26 Press Release: Mathematics Instructor Darren King Fired from NYU

At New York University (NYU), Mathematics postdoctoral scholar and instructor Darren King was fired on April 15, 2024, apparently for taking down pro-Israel posters depicting hostages. Darren King is Black, making him one of a small number of Black postdocs in the sciences at NYU. He was employed as a Courant Instructor by the Mathematics Department, which is inside the Courant Institute at NYU.

The NYU Office of Equal Opportunity (OEO) found King guilty of violating “the University’s Non-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment Policies by engaging in harassment based on race, ethnicity, national origin, and/or creed/religion.” King has no previous disciplinary actions taken against him.

The OEO investigation occurred after King was subjected to months of intense online harassment and trolling campaigns, all based on a short video taken in October 2023 in which he appears to be removing posters from a temporary construction barrier and interacting calmly with the videographer. The NYU OEO has not explained the reasoning by which it determined that this evidence supports the charge of discrimination. It appears to be based on the idea that opposition to the state of Israel is inherently anti-semitic. It also appears to be based only on the video used in the online harassment campaign; that is, it appears that the OEO used video taken and propagated by harassers.

One thing that is indisputable is that Black and Brown employees at NYU are facing far more scrutiny, and receiving far more serious consequences, than white employees. One reason for this is that NYU is allowing its disciplinary processes to be abused by anonymous reporters who overwhelmingly report Black and Brown community members. Another point of relevance is that the NYU and Courant Institute leadership did nothing to protect King from tremendous online harassment.

The racist, unfounded firing of Darren King is a continuation of NYU’s suppression of pro-Palestine voices, especially of our Black, Palestinian, Arab, Muslim and brown comrades.
Shame on NYU, which heeds to zionist doxxing campaigns, but not the demands of its community to divest from the zionist death machine. We demand amnesty for our faculty and students. Drop the charges! Reinstate Darren King! The students are by your side!

Just an hour ago, NYU students set up the Gaza Solidarity Encampment after being violently raided. NYPD RIOT COPS ARE ALREADY ON THE SCENE. ALL OUT TO NYU. ALL OUT TO CCNY. THE STUDENTS ARE CALLING ON THEIR COMMUNITY TO COME THROUGH.

Students have been successfully holding down the encampment! NYPD left the scene earlier tonight after negotiations. Students are settling in for a screening of “Gaza Fights for Freedom.”
We’ll be here till our demands are met. Till victory ✌️
