NYU, our campus with so many walls, is constantly policing public space — whether pushing for sweeps of our homeless neighbors, shutting down student protest, or (today) disrupting a completely non confrontational teach-in on campus. 🗣️ NYU has given no explanation as to why, but spent the last hour quietly going around to students in the reclaimed Diana Tamari Sabbagh Library and telling them that the library is closed. They did not approach students “perceived as protestors.” New ID holders were not being allowed in.
Just now, NYU has apparently re opened the library. This attempt at clearing students out and forcibly removing us was a clear intimidation tactic. It did not work. NYU, where are those “good faith negotiations” you talked so much about?
