Big congratulations to our interns for the success of the NUS IT Interns Project Showcase - Summer 2020 held virtually throughout the 1st week of August!

Our 25 interns, hailing from 5 different faculties, showcased the projects that they have worked tirelessly on to domain experts of the Academic, Research and Administration fields, whom were specifically invited by our CITO, Mr Tommy Hor and Deputy CITO, Ms Tan Shui-Min.

In line with our efforts of “Bringing the World into the Classroom”, our interns spent the past few months exploring Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), UI/UX Design and many more to tackle real-world challenges.

We were very honoured to have NUS President Prof Tan Eng Chye, Provost Prof Ho Teck-Hua and DPAF Mr John Wilton joining us for the Grand Finale on 7 Aug and bore witness to the remarkable IT achievements of our interns.

Since our first batch of interns in 2019, our internship programme has grown significantly to become the platform it is today. Over 20 projects have seen NUS IT and students successfully working together to develop cutting-edge solutions, with some even expected to be deployed soon!

A job well done!

Applications for the next round of NUS IT internships will open in Sep-Oct 2020.

Dear Students,

We have detected a global phishing attack targeting universities, including NUS. Its fraudulent intent is to obtain user credentials that can access universities’ library portals to steal academic research and intellectual property. Attached above is a sample of what you might receive.

Please do not respond to these emails, click on any link or open any attachment.

Look out for:

1. A Red – External - Email banner👹👹
• A red banner at the top of the email provides the visual alert that this email is from external sources.

2. Subject titles
• Email subject titles related to the library. Some examples are:

3. Suspicious Links🤔🤔
• Suspicious links that do not end with nus.edu.sg (remember to mouse-over or tap-and-hold to see the real URL).

4. Unfamiliar email addresses😱😱
• Email addresses that look suspicious. For example, those that are misspelled or from unfamiliar sources.

5. Look-alike library portals🤥🤥
• Websites which are similar to the NUS Library Portal (Look carefully at the URL in your web browser, NUS library portal URL should be https://libportal.nus.edu.sg).

???What should I do???

On the 8th of June, NUS IT was invited to participate in the Cybersecurity Innovation, Trends & Insights Symposium 2021, jointly organised by CSA Singapore, NUS Enterprise and TNB Ventures.

Ms Tan Shui-Min, our Chief IT Officer, was the opening keynote speaker for the symposium. She shared insights on how technology can be dualistic in mitigating risks and yet be a source for vulnerability exploits, particularly during the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic.

NUSIT’s very own Head of IT Security, Mr Ang Leong Boon, was also invited to be a moderator and facilitator of a discussion and networking session, the highlights of which he shared with fellow IT experts and professionals.

Congratulations to Ms Tan Shui-Min and Mr Ang Leong Boon for your enriching presentations that brought valuable insights to the symposium! 👏👏
