31 January 2020 - In view of the Wuhan coronavirus situation, there may arise a need to work from a remote location. To enable that, NUS IT have documented and released some quick steps yesterday to get staff connected, depending on whether they are setting up with their home computer or NUS-issued laptops.

In 2018, the worst cyber-attack in Singapore's history happened. Hackers stole data of 1.5 million patients from SingHealth.

It has been approximately 2 years since it happened but there are still many lessons that we can learn from this incident today.

NUS IT has created a short and easy to understand animation of the events that transpired and how we can prevent it in the future.

1. Transition to #WFH and #HBL for 38K students and 14K faculty and staff over two weeks smoothly and painlessly without technical disruption;

2. Peace time is the best period to plan for crisis which NUS has done well with virtualization, storage on demand and bursting of Internet bandwidth in partnership with our service providers; and

3. With Cybersecurity risk shifting to computers at home, BYODs, and with remote access issues to desktop software, endpoint security and VDI investment will no longer be discretionary to support telecommuting in the new normal.
