Did you know that NUS IT (previously known as NUS Computer Centre) was the birthplace of the Internet in Singapore all the way back in 1990? 🀯

While the Internet in Singapore was largely and publicly made available through the telco SingTel back in 1994, the technology behind it was in fact, implemented and made possible through the effort of many in NUS. πŸ‘πŸ€©

Together with the then Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA), in collaboration with NUS, SingCERT was established to facilitate the detection, resolution and prevention of security-related incidents on the Internet.

Did you know that NUS IT was the leader in rolling out Wi-Fi roaming among Singapore’s Institutes of Higher Learning all the way back in 2004? πŸ€―πŸ’―

NUS IT established the first Wi-Fi roaming zone among several IHL-CIO forum members, enabling seamless wireless access to the IT resources offered by home institutes when students move from one campus to another. πŸ“ΆπŸ™Œ

2004 was also the year NUS IT implemented full wireless coverage for the entire NUS campus. It offered the highest performance at 54 Mbps with 1,000 wireless base stations, deployed in over 100 buildings for a strong user population of 32,000. This was one of the first large-scale deployments of 802.11g-enabled wireless networks in Asia Pacific.
In 2019, NUS IT began work on the creation of a one-stop mobile app for the NUS community. When COVID-19 hit, the first version of uNivUS enabled NUS to efficiently respond to the University’s safe management measures.

As the COVID-19 situation stabilised, the uNivUS App Development Project Team, a joint effort by the NUS Organisational Excellence Transformation Unit and NUS IT, resumed work on turning uNivUS into a unified mobile platform for the NUS community. πŸ‘

On 26th September 2021, our NUS IT Management Team embarked on a gruelling and tiring 3km run, under the RunNUS 2021 event hosted by our NUS Students' Sports Club (NUSSSC), to raise funds for the Disabled People’s Association (DPA) and Singapore Disability Sports Council (SDSC).

The event was logistically supported by our very own Fun Club (NUS IT’s Staff Welfare Committee) to aid the management team on their journey. πŸƒπŸ»β€β™‚πŸƒπŸ»β€β™€

Equipped with their running gear, sunblock, sunglasses and lots of love and support from the entire department, our Management Team led the way to raise $5,678 for charity - way past our original target! πŸ‘

A huge thanks to everybody in NUS IT and kudos to our Management Team! We are so thrilled to have been able to contribute to this meaningful cause. πŸŽ‰
