Hackerspace: Intro to PCB Design

Ever wanted to make your very own cool printed circuit boards (PCBs), like the Hack&Roll 2026 hardware badge? Curious about the process that goes into making one? Come down to this week's Hackerspace, where Yik Jin will be sharing more on how to make your very own PCB, starting from a fresh project, to sending your PCB for fabrication! Plenty of time will be available for all to ask your questions and chat with the makers of the Hack&Roll 2026 hardware badge as well.

Yik Jin is currently a computer engineering undergraduate in NUS, and has worked on PCB projects, such as the Hack&Roll 2026 badge. He is also a Coreteam member of NUS Hackers.

Keeping State Straight in Distributed Systems

At Jane Street, we rely heavily on inter-process communication and real-time message passing to drive many of our most critical systems, including those that ingest market data and implement trading strategies.

As we scale up the number of components, however, it becomes increasingly difficult to reason about the consistency and correctness of the overall system.

In this talk, we explore how transaction logs, state machine replication, and control flow inversion have allowed us to structure our applications in a way that lets us reliably deal with data races and process failures.

Speakers ProfileπŸŽ™

Shi-Jie is currently a software engineer at Jane Street Singapore, attached to the International ETFs trading desk. He graduated as valedictorian with a double degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from NUS in 2017.

Building an Explainable AI Analyst for Company Intelligence

What if you could ask, β€œWhich companies are expansion-ready?” and get a grounded, data-backed answer in seconds β€” not a hallucinated guess?
In this talk, we share how we built IntelliCompany AI, an explainable company intelligence platform that combines clustering, feature engineering, and a guardrail-constrained LLM to generate defensible business insights.
We’ll break down our end-to-end pipeline β€” from 8,559 companies and K-Prototypes clustering to a Groq-powered Llama 3.3 AI Analyst β€” and the architectural decisions that helped us win 1st place out of 86 teams at the 2026 NUS Datathon.

Speakers ProfileπŸŽ™

Bernardino Lintang and Patil Kaveri Vinod are Year 3 Data Science & Analytics students at NUS, who recently won the 2026 NUS Datathon!

Hackerschool Week 8: Intro to AI Web Agents

πŸ—“ Tuesday, 10 March 6:30-8:30 pm

SR13 @ COM3-01-22
🧁 Refreshments will be served!

Chatbots answer questions. Agents get things done. AI Agents are the next frontier of AI, moving beyond simple back-and-forth conversations to autonomous systems that can reason, use tools, and take action on their own.

We'll break down the core mechanics of agentic AI: the reasoning-action loop, tool use, system prompts, and multi-step planning. Then you'll put it all to the test in our Agent Arena: a competitive, timed challenge where you build your own AI agent and pit it against increasingly difficult tasks. Come ready to build.
