FAQ:

What kind of people are we looking for?

We are looking for people with an understanding of what hacking is, and are passionate about spreading hacking culture. We do not require hacking experience/projects/skills, as long as the candidate fulfil the above conditions.

Do I need to have prior programming experience before joining?
No, we've had members whose first programming experience was in CS1010, and that's fine!

Do I need to be an SoC student to join?
No, we have members who are not from SoC! Any NUS student are more than welcome to apply!

Do I need to be in coreteam to join NUS Hackers events?
No! All our events are free and open to public.

Ever wondered how the electronic badge for Hack&Roll 2026 was made? This talk will share about the whole ideation, design and execution process, from coming up with the artwork, incorporating electronics and code, as well as assembly and programming 1,000+ such badges.

Terence and Yik Jin are hardware enthusiasts who designed and work on the hardware badge. They have past experience working on various embedded projects, most notably, the GreyCTF electronic badges.

Hackerschool Week 4: Intro to Shell & Vim

Shell and Vim are two essential tools for working efficiently in a Unix-based environment (and both are commonly encountered by 2030s students!)

Weโ€™ll start with an introduction to the shell, covering basic navigation, file management, and common commands to help you get comfortable working in a terminal.

After that, weโ€™ll move on to an introduction to Vim, where youโ€™ll learn core concepts, essential keybindings, and tips to make editing code and text less intimidating (and more productive).

Hackerspace: Intro to PCB Design

Ever wanted to make your very own cool printed circuit boards (PCBs), like the Hack&Roll 2026 hardware badge? Curious about the process that goes into making one? Come down to this week's Hackerspace, where Yik Jin will be sharing more on how to make your very own PCB, starting from a fresh project, to sending your PCB for fabrication! Plenty of time will be available for all to ask your questions and chat with the makers of the Hack&Roll 2026 hardware badge as well.

Yik Jin is currently a computer engineering undergraduate in NUS, and has worked on PCB projects, such as the Hack&Roll 2026 badge. He is also a Coreteam member of NUS Hackers.

Weโ€™ll dive into a hands-on Figma workshop, where youโ€™ll learn the basics of UI/UX design, how to navigate the canvas, and build a fully interactive prototype from scratch.

Push your UI/UX skills to the stratosphere with Hackerspace: Figma Hands-On! A follow-up to Hackerschool: Introduction to UI/UX and Figma, come down to this week's Hackerspace where Youngseo will be sharing more on how to use Figma with best practices, applying UI/UX design principles by dissecting and creating your own interactive re-design prototype!

Youngseo is currently a Y3 computer science undergraduate in NUS and has worked with Figma for both personal and academic UI/UX projects. She is also a Coreteam member of NUS Hackers.
