How do you determine if a startup is a good investment? 🤔

Many investors assess its potential by considering government subsidies aimed at promoting innovation and entrepreneurship. These subsidies not only imply state support but also suggest the startup’s capacity for innovation and growth.

A team, including NUS Computing faculty Bernard Tan and Heng Cheng Suang, explored the impact of R&D and growth subsidies on investor perceptions during periods of high corruption, such as the post-Eight-Point Code China campaign introduced in December 2012.

Can weather influence your workout motivation? 🤔

Research by Assistant Professor Nakyung Kyung sheds light on how weather and words (the framing of the message) work together to impact exercise habits. For example, the case study of a workout app showed that messages about gaining benefits (e.g. better health) work best on cloudy days, while messages warning about losses (e.g. risk of health issues) are more effective when it's sunny. 🫢
