Congrats to Computer Science PhD student Ma Yunshan, NUS Computing Professor Chua Tat Seng, and their collaborators for winning the Best Student Paper Award at the ACM ICMR 2021! The team proposed a novel approach to develop a more efficient and effective fashion recommender system using two types of global graphs - the user-item interaction graph and item-item transition graph - to capture both long-term and short-term preferences in shoppers. 🛍️

NUS Computing freshmen taking CS1101S Programming Methodology are familiar with Forum Hours, informal sessions where students meet to share module experiences, discuss assignments, and when needed, consult a tutor. 📚 💻
Forum Hours was suggested by CS1101S tutor Aiden Low, who wanted to improve the informal aspects of teaching and was inspired by successful teaching models that he saw during his overseas studies, particularly those he experienced at Stanford University. At these sessions, tutors are easily recognised by their CS1101S staff t-shirts, and are on hand to help students twice a week in the evenings at the study area in COM1's basement. Kudos to Aiden for contributing to the teaching and learning innovation here at NUS Computing! 💪

✨'Tis the season for giving!✨
Throwback to when NUS Computing alumni Laurence Putra Franslay started Project Stable Staples during the circuit breaker period in 2020, an initiative that helps raise funds for Singaporeans living in rental communities. Laurence and his team raised over S$160,000, which was then used to purchase essentials such as food and groceries for Singaporeans struggling during the circuit breaker.
It's been some time since we left the circuit breaker period, but Laurence and his team are still running Project Stable Staples to this day, and going the extra mile by assisting these families with job searches. Well done, Laurence!👏💪

NUS Computing Asst Prof Warut Suksompong and his collaborators have won the Best Student Paper Award at the 17th Conference on Web and Internet Economics (WINE) 2021!
The team introduced the notion of “contribution incentive-compatibility” and showed that it is satisfied by the Nash product rule, a mechanism that determines a socially optimal distribution of money pooled for public projects. 👥
The award recognises the work by PhD students Matthias Greger and Christian Stricker from the Technical University of Munich. Congrats, Dr Suksompong and team! 🎉
