On 12 April 2023, ๐Ÿ—“ #NUSComputing held the 22nd School of Computing Term Project Showcase (STePS) ๐Ÿ–ฅ๐ŸŽ‰.

Some 800 guests ๐Ÿ‘ฅ attended this developer centric event featuring about 60 innovative student projects ๐Ÿš€ across 5 tracks ranging from Game Development ๐ŸŽฎ to Machine Learning ๐Ÿค–. The projects received votes from #NUSComputing faculty ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿซ, industry guests ๐ŸŒ, and representatives from various government agencies ๐Ÿ› to pick the winning submissions ๐Ÿ†.

Besides giving students the opportunity to showcase their talent and creativity ๐ŸŒŸ, STePS also connected them with key industry figures ๐Ÿ”‘ and potential investors ๐Ÿ’ผ.

The Therac-25 tragedy in the 80s taught us how dangerous software bugs โ˜ข๏ธ can be. And now, 40 years later, software applications have become increasingly complex, making it even more difficult to detect and correct bugs.

Enter assistant professor Umang Mathur, a bug-hunting hero working tirelessly to detect and eliminate data race bugs in concurrent systems. ๐Ÿž

๐Ÿ’ก Using cutting-edge techniques like Race Property Tester (RPT), which samples events to reduce analysis time, asst prof Mathur is pushing the boundaries of software reliability. Recognized with a Distinguished Paper Award, his work could redefine the way software firms test for concurrency bugs. ๐Ÿ†

๐Ÿ”’ Imagine a future where software is safer, more reliable, and less prone to devastating errors. Thanks to asst prof Mathur, we're one step closer. Check out the article here to learn more: www.comp.nus.edu.sg/news/features/2023-concurrency-bugs-umathur/
