My team in London is hiring two interns for a 12-month placement starting in May 2026. If you’re a college student interested in the economics of frontier markets (Eurasia, Africa, MENA), skilled in Excel, and enjoy coding in Python, we encourage you to apply. Я вам уже какое-то время назад рассказывала, что у CEPR есть онлайн семинары по монетарной экономике, которые интересно послушать, но теперь я осознала, что есть не только по монетарной. Мне понравилось еще IO и Climate Economics, но есть еще Development, Economics of Aging и что-то там еще. Мне кажется, полезнее заставить себя пойти в живую на зум, прям когда они происходят, но в записи тоже можно посмотреть

The Nobel Prize-winning economists Esther Duflo and Abhijit Banerjee - two pioneers in the field of development economics - will join UZH.

Using external funds provided by the Lemann Foundation, the two researchers will establish a new center for development economics, education and public policy.

Both economists are currently employed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and will join the UZH Faculty of Business, Economics and Informatics in July 2026.

In 2019, the couple was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics, along with economist Michael Kremer, for their “experimental approach to alleviating global poverty.”

Research Interns (Geo-Economics) — Trade Flows & Route Stress Testing

We are recruiting two Research Interns to support an ongoing geo-economic project focused on trade flows, route fragility, and decision-making under stress.
This role is designed for candidates interested in how global trade actually functions when systems are disrupted—not in theory, but in practice.
What you’ll work on
Mapping trade routes, chokepoints, and rerouting decisions
Analysing friction points (ports, transit delays, insurance, compliance, capacity constraints)
Building decision trees around disruption: what breaks first, what is delayed, what adapts
Producing short, high-signal research notes, flow maps, and scenario briefs
What we’re looking for
Strong systems thinking (flows, bottlenecks, second-order effects)
Ability to sequence decisions under uncertainty
Comfort working with incomplete or imperfect data
Clear written reasoning (clarity > polish)
Backgrounds of interest: geopolitics, economics, IR, logistics, OSINT, risk analysis

Format
Time commitment: ~10 hours per week
Location: Remote
Requirement: Strong, reliable internet connection
Duration: 6–10 weeks (extendable)
Start: ASAP
Selection process
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to complete a brief cognitive challenge (10–15 minutes).
This is not a technical test. It evaluates reasoning, prioritisation, and judgement under stress.
