Greetings, parents. I am Nilanjana Sanyal, representing NSOMTC, short form of NS Online Math Tutoring Classes. I am pleased to announce the creation of two exclusive Telegram group communities for Indian and NRI students enrolled in IB Math AA HL and IB Math AA SL. The primary aim is to encourage a collaborative environment where students with a positive mindset can share their mathematical skills and challenges. This platform will promote mutual assistance in clarifying doubts and understanding mathematical concepts. As an online IB Math tutor, I will also contribute by engaging in discussions about various topics covered in the IB Math AA syllabuses. Our goal is to establish two private communities, each accommodating a maximum of 50 students. If you are interested in enrolling your child in these communities, kindly contact me.

Every moment in life is an opportunity to learn and the world around us is our greatest classroom. We absorb wisdom from the people we encounter, making each of us both a student and a teacher in this journey of life. On this Teacher’s Day, let us celebrate the educators who reside within us, for they shape our growth and understanding every day. Happy Teacher’s Day to the teachers that guide us from within!
In India, IB schools recently conducted their August examinations and many schools have already released the results. How did your child perform? I believe that there isn’t an absolute benchmark to gauge performance. What are your thoughts? While the IB board assigns 7 levels that undoubtedly provide valuable insights in to a student’s knowledge of a particular subject, there could be other factors at play. For instance, a student might not have been feeling well on the day of the examination or might possess adequate knowledge but struggle with writing speed.
In my opinion, the most crucial aspect is continuous development. If a student has improved from a Level 3 to Level 5, they should certainly be commended. However, if the previous performance was at a Level 7, it’s essential to delve into the root cause of the change.
Parents often ask about where to get Math questions for their kid’s regular practice. My suggestion is to utilize a good IB Math AA SL or HL textbook and work through the exercises found in different chapters. As they answer the exercise questions, it is advisable to mark those they are struggling with and then count the number of marked questions upon completion of the exercise. If the count of marked questions equals or exceeds 25% of the total number of questions in the exercise, it may indicate a lack of understanding of the topic. So, the kid should consider seeking an expert guidance from a teacher, a tutor, a relative or a friend proficient in Mathematics. The child should then revisit the same marked questions again after 3 days. This would help the kid to remember the process and the related concept. #nsomtc #nsonlinemathclasses #ibmath #ibeducation #parentengagement

Sometimes, I encounter enquiries such as ‘‘Ma’am, which chapters would you consider relatively more important?’’ This query typically arises during consultation sessions, primarily from parents of IB Math AA SL students. Although it does also come occasionally from my own students, the frequency is quite low. What I would like to emphasize is that even though there may not be a question from every chapter in every IB Math AA question paper, each chapter should be considered to be equally important. For example, while Geometry (may be a question on bearings) and its accompanying Trigonometry may not come each year, neglecting practice questions in that area could prove costly. If you opt not to prepare and a 10-mark question (assuming) on that topic appears, you lose the entire 10 marks! Can you afford to take that risk?

Happy Navratri and Durga Puja to all! May we all lead happy and prosperous lives through the blessings of the Ultimate power, be it God, the Universe or any Supreme force, regardless of its name.
Although it is a festive season for many Indians, several IB schools in India are conducting the October tests during this period. Students must worship, in form of studies, the Almighty to seek the blessings for their examinations and should also set aside some time for enjoyment. This suggestion is not at all unreasonable for students who have a clear understanding of all the covered topics and have consistently followed a well-planned study routine.
For many IB grade 11 students, this examination can be an eye-opener. The results, particularly in Math, may indicate whether additional guidance is required. If the answer is ‘yes’, then my humble advice would be to not hesitate any longer when considering seeking external assistance beyond school. The syllabus, particularly for IB Math AA HL, is extensive, and with only twelve to fourteen months left before the May 2025 examination, there is no room for further contemplation. Take action swiftly.

Dear IB Math AA SL/HL students,
If you are having your board examination in May 2024, you are in your last phase of preparation. Therefore, it is crucial to address common pitfalls that can affect your performance. How have you performed in your Mock Examinations? Throughout the test period, students often encounter four main types of mistakes, each of which can significantly impact their marks.
1. Silly mistakes – mostly caused by lack of attention to detail.
2. Conceptual errors – results due to the misunderstanding of the underlying concepts.
3. Improper time management strategy – effect of lacking the desired speed or due to the improper allocation of time to different sections or questions.
4. Forgotten portions of the syllabus – outcome of failure to recall previously learned material during the exam.
This post focuses on the fourth type of mistake. A student might have a strong understanding of a topic and may excel in solving related questions during study sessions. However, without consistent practice, they may struggle to recall that material during the exam.
The most effective solution to combat this issue is to maintain a comprehensive notebook. This notebook should include all essential formulas, pertinent tips (potentially provided by your teacher or tutor), and a collection of important and typical questions with their corresponding answers for every topic covered in the syllabus.
However, creating this resource is just the beginning. Merely having a well-organized notebook will not suffice unless you actively engage with its contents. It is essential to review your notebook regularly. Aim to go through each page at least once a week to reinforce your understanding and prevent forgetting crucial information.
By incorporating these strategies into your study routine, you can better retain and recall the material you have learned, ultimately improving your performance in the IB Math AA examination.
All the best for your studies and for your future.
Nilanjana Sanyal.

Dear friends,
I hope this message finds you well. As you are aware, I serve as an online tutor for IBDP Mathematics. It has been a privilege to assist many students in their academic journeys.
However, I must address a few points regarding the requests I receive for tutoring assistance. Regrettably, there are occasions when I must decline requests due to certain constraints. The two primary reasons for my inability to accommodate these requests are as follows:
1. Time Availability: At times, there is a misalignment between the available time slots and the requested tutoring sessions or there is a complete unavailability of any vacant slot. Unfortunately, this discrepancy prevents me from accepting certain inquiries.
2. Specific Math Stream: I provide guidance to IB Math AA HL students only and I must clarify that I no longer provide tutoring assistance for the IGCSE, IB MYP, IB Math AA SL and IB Math AI SL/HL streams.
If you are a relatively new yet competent tutor from India, specializing in IB Math or IGCSE Math, and you are open to accepting new students, I kindly invite you to reach out to me via direct message (DM). Collaborating with like-minded professionals not only benefits us individually but also contributes to the academic success of our students.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in this matter.
Best regards,
Nilanjana Sanyal.
Dear IB Math AA SL/HL Students,
By now, you have likely begun preparing for the upcoming August-September examinations. The key to your success lies in three words: Practice, Practice, and Practice. Start with the questions in your textbooks to solidify your understanding, then move on to actual IB past paper questions.
Keep a separate notebook for questions you couldn't solve on your first attempt. For each question, write down the correct solution along with your incorrect answer, and note why you struggled with it initially (in a red pen). Was it a calculation error or a misunderstanding of the concept? If it was a calculation error, did you input something incorrectly into your calculator? Document the specific mistake so you can avoid repeating it.
If the issue was due to a flawed reasoning process, record your incorrect thought process to help prevent similar errors in the future. Additionally, organize these questions by chapter. This will help you identify which chapters contain the most challenging questions for you. These areas are your weak points. Once identified, review the concepts in those chapters thoroughly and practice more questions related to them.
Happy learning!
Best regards,
Nilanjana Sanyal.
