If you’ve ever seen a flash of yellow fly by, it might’ve been the Olive-backed Sunbird (Nectarinia jugularis)! It’s named for its nectar-feeding habits, which is why it’s often found near flowers in our forests and parks. It has a quick wing beat, which makes it resemble a hummingbird.

Listen out for its crisp “tweet-tweet” and you just might spot this sunbird hovering nearby.

Did you know that your pet cockatoo’s majestic crest can tell you a lot about how it is feeling?

A raised crest while dancing around is part of its mating ritual. While your pet may not have a potential mate in the house, it could be showing off for whoever is willing to give it attention!

The raised crest can also be a sign of aggression, especially if the bird is in the company of other birds. In other instances, it may be a sign of curiosity or simply a friendly greeting!

Once widespread in Singapore’s swampy areas, this epiphytic native orchid was rediscovered at the Nee Soon freshwater swamp forest in 2010.
