can someone explain to me why do meds have to be so frustratingly expensive?

i have to buy my pills twice a month, and the ones for adhd cost about $33. so essentially $66. and it’s a LOT, excluding pills for bpd.
and it gets more expensive because of inflation and import costs a couple times a year.
i’m so lucky that i earn enough at this point so that i can at least get that, but don’t even get me started on additional costs like blood tests and checkups.
