WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT MIDAZOLAM (STILL)

I watched Dr Bryan Ardis in the Grand Jury proceedings yesterday and it is well worth catching. I will post the link below. Shocking to say the least.

I thank Dr Ardis for bringing my work to the attention of the panel, especially as regards the NICE guidelines, (NG163), on midazolam and morphine prescribing.

What I often hear about those guidelines, from those believing in the narrative, from my fellow professionals, and from medical professionals too, is that they are irrelevant because they refer to midazolam and morphine being given in an "end of life" scenario.

Hence, there is an embedded belief that the midazolam and morphine use was for people at end of life, who then contracted covid, or who became end of life because they contracted covid. This is an incorrect belief/assertion.

What people need to understand about this issue is multi faceted, and not easily explained in a shortish post. I will endeavour to do my best here.

The basis of what happened and is still happening is that people in care homes and hospices etc, got/get labelled as having covid, sometimes on the balance of probabilities in the early days, and sometimes as a result of a fraudulent PCR test which cannot diagnose anything, let alone if you are going to die of covid.

Given the psychological messaging from the govt and the fear propaganda from the media, there was an almost universal belief in the early days, (and this does still exist), that anyone over a certain age who was diagnosed with covid, was going to die, hence end of life treatment protocols were immediately commenced. This resulted in food and fluids being withdrawn, (the latter being against NHS guidelines), normal meds being withdrawn, and midazolam and morphine then being given for agitation and pain, when in fact that prescribing was only necessary due to the actions taken as a result of the incorrect belief of end of life.

In other words there was a culture, and this still exists, that covid for anyone over a certain age was going to be uniformly fatal. Nothing could be further from the truth as the vast majority of people WERE NOT going to die.

Further, for those that already had co morbidities that meant they were classed as end of life, a diagnosis of covid was the final nail in the coffin. Again, the assumption is that when you are classed as end of life, it means that you are dying then and there. This is INCORRECT. Most people classed as end of life will live for months, some years, with their chronic issues, before dying. It is again a culture within the medical profession to see the words "end of life", and to believe death is imminent, rather than treat the person before you who may have an acute flare up of chronic issues, who in turn may therefore be treated and go home after interventions to live out the rest of their life, however long that may be.

Recognising when someone is truly in the last hours of their life takes great expertise and skill. All too often medical professionals assume imminent death because someone has been classed as coming to the end of their life, when the end of life process can take well over a year. I have known people go on for 3 years after an end of life diagnosis. Everyone is different, it is not a one size fits all and NICE guideline NG163 sought to make it so, conflating issues further by adding covid into the mix.
