I have said it multiple times - Social Media is holding you back from achieving your goals. The post I just shared serves as a plain illustration of this phenomenon.

This is my 11 month progress in the gym that I started in June 2022. The chart only includes the core lifts. The gaps in the graph mean I either switched those lifts for something else, or I had an injury in the corresponding body part.

Sam Altman, Founder and CEO of OpenAI, is coming to Education City in Qatar. I'll make another post about it If I can make it to the event.

Notes from Sam Altman Event
We had Sam Altman over this week in the Qatar National Library in Education City to talk about OpenAI. The talk was somewhat generic and the questions that were asked were about AI's impact on Education, Governance, and the Economy. Extensive reads are available online on those topics so I'll summarize the key insights I got from the event:
1. How to find/generate startup ideas that will go big: He suggested that you keep in the loop of new findings in the fields you are interested in and spend a lot of time with smart people (my post about friends).
2. Future of jobs: AI will have an enormous impact in the economy. Most workers right now do repetitive assigned tasks instead of jobs, and that will be eliminated with the help of AI soon. It's a good time to be an AI/ML engineer and he advised to learn large scale distributed systems.
3. Off-topic: Something interesting I noticed was the lack of guards in the event. The event was attended by Sheikha Moza, mother of the current emir of Qatar, and I did not see anyone doing checks on people. Sam Altman left from the regular entrance with everyone.

Embrace Failure
A friend once told me that they would never take part in a competition unless they are certain they would win. Last week, I had my first swimming competition on 50m freestyle, and I came last. Do I regret taking part in it? No.
I sure knew I was not going to win that race. I thought about backing out until the very last minute. But I did the race anyway. Why? Because I needed to start somewhere. If you keep chasing perfectionism, you will rob yourself of the journey and embracing the imperfect. Now I'm fired up more than ever and actively preparing for the competition taking place in the fall.
All that being said, do not refrain from starting something new, and do not wait to be perfect to take part in challenges for sure. You learn from failing a lot and reflecting on those failures.
Nike always had it right. Just do it.

ββMira Murati
Sam Altman is often seen as the mastermind behind GPT models and OpenAI, but there are so many people behind the scenes who made it possible.
Mira Murati, CTO at OpenAI, is one of the key visionaries behind the project who oversaw the ChatGPT from ideation to production. Born and raised in Albania, Mira came to the States as an international student and worked her way up to who she is today.
It makes you think about how women in STEM are often overlooked by the media and people, despite their remarkable achievements.
Another important thing to reflect is how immigrants shape the US economy and the innovation that drives it. It is sad to see the US policymakers who do not take action on improving immigrant visas and work permits.
Here's an interview with her and Emily Chang from Bloomberg: https://youtu.be/p9Q5a1Vn-Hk
