What is dogmatism?
Or Jazmiyyah (or dogmatism) is a state of intellectual stagnation, in which a person becomes intolerant to his own ideas to the point of refusing to see the contradictory ideas, and if evidence appears to him that proves that his ideas are wrong, he will fight them with all his strength, and struggle to prove the validity of his ideas and opinions And it is considered a severe case of intolerance to ideas, principles and convictions, to the point of hostility to everything that differs from it. It is considered a case of adherence to a certain idea by a group without accepting to discuss it or coming up with any evidence to contradict it in order to discuss it, or as it is for the Greeks, intellectual stagnation. It is the militancy of religious belief or ideological principle, or a subject that is not open to debate or doubt.
The word originates from the Greek δόγμα, which means "opinion" or "one belief". Authoritarianism, infallibility, dogmatism, or non-judgmentalism (the claim that a particular statement is absolutely incontestable), submissive acceptance (by the observant) and nonsecretism are the core of the idea of dogmatism. These ideas often elicit criticism from moderates and extroverts. Therefore, the word dogmatism is often used to refer to a doctrine or principle that has the problem of claiming the absolute truth. Also, one of the features of dogmatism is to cut an opinion or belief regardless of the facts or what is happening on the ground. This is what is called in the Arabic language "arbitrariness." The word dogmatism is also used to describe opinion that is not supported by evidence.
