Tim Meyer challenges Muhammad bin Sulaiman
The upcoming FIA presidential election will not be without alternatives: we have reported that Tim Mayer, a former steward who was dismissed from his position by Mohammed ben Sulayem late last year, has announced his intention to run. After his dismissal, Mayer publicly criticized the federation's current president for his management methods.
As expected, this morning in London, Mayer held a press conference confirming his intention to participate in the elections. According to PlanetF1, the American candidate is backed by Dave Richa rds, president of the British motorsport federation.
Tim Mayer: "My career in motorsport has spanned 34 years. I have been a TV promoter, organizer, and held official positions. I started in IndyCar, moved to sports car racing, then to FIA, and since 2009 have been working within the federation.

Formula 2: Victor Martin won the Silverstone race.
The qualifying at Silverstone for Formula 2 started as usual, with the leading drivers immediately declaring their intention for pole position, including experienced Viktor Marten, who has yet to turn his potential into strong race results.
On Fridays, during youth series qualifying, he usually posts top times, and today it was French ART driver who first set a decent lap. Just a few hundredths behind in early attempts was championship leader Richard Vershor, while Jack Crowford, a swift American racing for DAMS, posted the third best time towards the end of the session.
It was Crowford who, after penalties imposed on others, inherited third place in Austria last Sunday, although he didn't make it onto the podium after the race finish.

Horner: We lose 90% of our time in two slow turns.
On Friday at Silverstone, Max Verstappen posted the 5th fastest time in the second session, while Yuki Tsunoda was ten places lower. Christian Horner, head of Red Bull Racing, summarized the first day of work on the classic British circuit.
Christian Horner: "So far, our car shows some tendency towards understeering, and we need to address this. We lose about 90% of our time in Turns 6 and 7, while the rest of the lap is more or less normal. However, with long runs, we managed reasonably well – overall, there’s room for improvement, and tonight we’ll try to find the right setup approach.
Getting rid of understeering isn’t easy, but it can be done through setup adjustments. At this stage, we’ve upgraded the RB21’s floor; it’s working as intended, and now the goal is to optimize the balance.

Stroll: The car handled pretty well, but it's too early to draw conclusions.
On Friday at Silverstone, Aston Martin drivers tested technical updates. Fernando Alonso said he did not notice much difference in the car's behavior, while Lance Stroll, who set the seventh time, called for caution in drawing conclusions.
Lance Stroll (7th): "Silverstone is a great circuit, and I always enjoy coming here. It’s a special track for the team because our base is just a few steps away. The support and energy from the fans we receive every year are simply amazing.
In the second session, I managed to do a few good laps, and the car handled well. But it's too early to draw conclusions — we first need to analyze the telemetry. Let’s see what we can do with the car overnight, and we’ll be back tomorrow."
Fernando Alonso (12th): "After today's sessions, it's hard to say where we stand.

Max Verstappen: The day turned out to be quite a bad one
Max Verstappen posted the fifth-best time in the second practice session for the British Grand Prix, five-tenths behind the leader Lando Norris. Summing up Friday, the Red Bull Racing driver stated that he was dissatisfied with the car's balance.
Yuki Tsunoda missed the first session, giving way to debutant Arvid Lindblad, and finished the second session in fifteenth place.
Max Verstappen (5th): "Personally, the day was quite poor for me. The car's balance was very bad, making it difficult to navigate each turn. The wind also had a strong influence on the car's behavior, but that's not an excuse because everyone was in the same conditions. However, it seems that our car is quite sensitive to the wind.
Overall, it was not the easiest day. The car is lacking speed, but we will evaluate some solutions and try to improve.

The British Grand Prix stewards reviewed Carlos Sainz's actions during the second Practice session, when he re-entered the track unsafely after spinning out of Turn 7.
While rejoining the track, the Williams driver impeded Nico Hülkenberg, who had to swerve to avoid a collision. After reviewing the incident footage and hearing from Carlos, the stewards found him guilty of creating a dangerous situation.
The stewards' verdict was a warning to the Williams driver.

Norris: I'm satisfied with the day's results, but there's not much to be particularly proud of.
Lando Norris showed the first times based on Friday's results and is generally satisfied with how his home weekend is starting, but both McLaren drivers noted the speed Ferrari cars are capable of at Silverstone.
Lando Norris (1st): "On the soft tires, I managed to do a very good lap, I stay true to myself in that regard, but overall, I must admit that Ferrari is very fast today, and the same will be true tomorrow.
Honestly, we still have work to do. It might seem like we looked even too good today, but in the third practice, Ferrari always catches up with us — that’s how it was last weekend as well. Overall, I’d say I’m pleased with the day’s results, but there’s not much to boast about yet.
Driving is still not that easy, and things didn’t go as smoothly as I’d like.

Haas F1 is pleased with the new features, but not with the speed.
Haas F1 tested new parts on Friday and were satisfied, but they are currently cautious about predictions…
Esteban Ocon (14th): "An interesting day. We significantly changed the car, installed some new components – we needed to evaluate their performance and optimize everything.
Due to strong wind, it's hard to draw conclusions – everything might be different tomorrow. It's clear that we need to achieve higher speed from the car. We'll see how it turns out in the end."
Oliver Berman (19th): "In the morning, Esteban tested the new aerodynamic package, and in the afternoon, it was installed on my car as well. We haven't been able to reach the maximum yet – insufficient turnability was a hindrance, but overall everything is fine; only some adjustments are needed to balance the car.

Pierre Gasly: We know why we have problems
Pierre Gasly and Franco Colapinto posted 18th and 20th times in the second practice session of the British Grand Prix. Both Alpine drivers noted that the car lacks stability and grip on the track.
Pierre Gasly (18th): "A very difficult Friday for us. The whole team continues to work together on fixing weaknesses, and we need to find solutions that will lead to greater speed.
We have a clear understanding of why we are facing issues. Mainly, they are related to passing through fast corners and a lack of grip. The problems that arose today are not like those we've encountered this season, but we will figure it out and find solutions.
The team aims to perform better on Saturday, and I know we can do it by focusing on qualifying."
Franco Colapinto (20th): "Not the easiest day, so we need to find a way to extract more speed from the car.

Ferrari's new rear suspension is not yet complete.
A 'filming day' at Mugello is scheduled for some time in July.
Contrary to expectations, Ferrari is not prepared to unveil its eagerly awaited new rear suspension design. Speculation had indicated that, after the successful new floor in Austria, the subsequent upgrade would be introduced promptly at Silverstone. Loic Serra, Ferrari’s newly appointed technical director, has reportedly spent months developing this innovation, having pinpointed it as a significant flaw in the 2025 car that was conceived last year by his predecessor, Enrico Cardile. However, specialized Italian media reports indicate that the team based in Maranello wants to guarantee that the major upgrade truly offers an improvement by testing it during a 'filming day' at Mugello in July.

Ben Sulayem set to take on opponent for FIA presidency.
Tim Mayer is set to formally announce his presidential campaign.
Controversial FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem will face opposition in the election scheduled for December. Recently, rally icon Carlos Sainz, father of the Williams driver with the same name, decided against running for the leadership of Formula 1 after a period of reflection.
However, on Thursday at Silverstone, it became known that 59-year-old Tim Mayer, son of the renowned former McLaren team principal Teddy Mayer, will officially kick off his presidential campaign on Friday, near the British GP venue.

Media and fans prohibited from attending the first F1 test of 2026.
"Only the laptimes will be made available."
Spectators and the media will not be allowed at the first test featuring the completely new cars and engines for 2026. Unlike previous years, there will be significantly more on-track testing prior to the introduction of the radical new chassis and power unit regulations — with one test scheduled in Barcelona at the end of January, followed by two more in Bahrain in February. The Barcelona test has been consistently described by Formula 1, the FIA, and the Circuit de Catalunya as a five-day "private" session. This means no journalists, TV coverage, photographers, or fans will be present.
The reason for this, as explained by Auto Motor und Sport, is "because the completely new cars will likely encounter many initial issues.

Red Bull should refrain from signing Vettel to take Marko's place.
"A German motorsport legend has suggested that Red Bull should reconsider their choice for Dr. Helmut Marko's replacement. At 82, Marko is contracted until the end of 2026 amidst speculation that he might leave alongside Max Verstappen, and some rumored ongoing tension with Christian Horner. Marko has acknowledged that retired four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel could be a suitable successor, and the 38-year-old German has also expressed interest.
"I still have a very good relationship with Helmut and we are in touch, including on this subject," Vettel stated to ORF recently. He emphasized, however, that the talks are "not yet intensive and in-depth." Marko added, "Currently, that's not a matter of concern. There's no reason to get excited. At some point, we will have to consider my successor.

'Nothing has altered' regarding Tsunoda's future - Marko
"The objective is for him to complete the season."
Amid growing speculation about Max Verstappen’s future, Dr. Helmut Marko acknowledges that Yuki Tsunoda is also in a pivotal phase of his Formula 1 career. After being elevated to the main team with Honda’s support following Liam Lawson’s unsuccessful stint, the Japanese racer reached a new low in Austria last weekend. Nonetheless, Red Bull is committed to Tsunoda for 2025.
"I definitely sense the support, now more than ever, from Christian (Horner) and Helmut," he stated on Thursday. "I traveled to the south of the UK with a Red Bull physio to reset myself, and that initiative was from them," Tsunoda continued. "They just wanted me to get some fresh air and everything."
Marko, however, seems to prefer not to put rookies Isack Hadjar or Arvid Lindblad in a similar position at least for this season.

Russell: It's unfortunate that the W16's performance depends on the weather.
George Russell finished the tests two places lower on the Friday timesheet than Kimi Antonelli, his 18-year-old teammate, but both Mercedes drivers note that the weather at Silverstone was clearly warmer than forecasted, which affected the car's behavior.
George Russell (8th): "Today we are not particularly close to the leaders, but the weather has become warmer, the track asphalt heated up to 40 degrees, and we can only hope that the temperatures will decrease slightly in the remaining days of the weekend.
It's frustrating that each weekend our car's performance depends on the weather, and we need to improve in this area. This is especially important in the summer months, and we are certainly making efforts to address it.

Williams complains about the wind.
Williams cars proved to be too sensitive to gusty winds, typical of Silverstone, which hindered work on Friday.
Alex Albon (11th): "It was very windy today, so it was difficult. We didn't reach the desired pace, we need to figure out how to make the car more manageable, and tomorrow we'll come back in better shape.
Wind always creates challenges, causing understeer or oversteer in every corner. Because of this, at Silverstone, where everything is exposed to the wind, it's hard to find the right setup — you don't feel comfortable in any turn, just trying to find the most stable balance throughout the lap.
Before the second practice, we made some adjustments; it seems we are moving in the right direction, but we'll see what happens in qualifying tomorrow."
Carlos Sainz (16th): "A tough day due to the wind.

Aaron: Every kilometer behind the wheel counts
During the Friday practice sessions for the British Grand Prix, the Sauber team worked with three drivers – first, Paul Aron took to the track, making his debut in an official Formula 1 session. In the second session, Estonian driver Nikko Hülkenberg replaced him.
Gabriel Bortoleto completed both sessions and said that he spent most of the day working on the car’s balance.
Gabriel Bortoleto (13th): "Overall, a positive day. We focused on working with the car’s balance, and I was satisfied with the direction we chose.
At Silverstone, driving a Formula 1 car is enjoyable because this is a real racetrack. Indeed, conditions were quite challenging due to strong and unpredictable wind. In some sections, the wind was a tailwind, making it difficult to position the car correctly before the turn. In the evening, we will try to adjust the settings to perform better on Saturday.

Charles Leclerc: We are confident in our race pace.
Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton recorded the second and third fastest times in the second practice session for the British Grand Prix. Both Ferrari drivers expressed satisfaction with the car's pace at Silverstone, although there is potential to improve in the flying laps.
Charles Leclerc (2nd): "Today went pretty smoothly. The feeling behind the wheel was good, but we still need to work on the car. In qualifying mode, we are slightly behind, but I am confident in the race pace. I really enjoyed driving on this track, and I’m looking forward to tomorrow.”
Lewis Hamilton (3rd): "An exciting day. It’s just incredible to be at Silverstone for the first time driving a Ferrari. The car handled well in both sessions, although I encountered traffic on the fast lap in the second session, so there’s definitely room for faster times.

Racing Bulls assess Friday’s results at Silverstone positively...
Isaac Hadjar (9th): "A good start to the weekend. We were fast in both practice sessions, made some adjustments between them – and they worked. It seems we got the most out of the car. On hot asphalt, the C3 and C4 compounds performed similarly, but the forecast for tomorrow promises cooler weather, where softer tires will be the better choice. During long runs, Liam and I split the program – he worked on Medium, and I on Soft, which allowed us to evaluate the difference. Wind affects the results like a lottery, but overall we looked pretty good. Conditions are the same for everyone, and we adapted quickly."
Liam Lawson (10th): "A good start. Like last week, my teammate's and my results were very close. Between sessions, we adjusted the settings to gain more speed.
