🇨🇩 Women face highest exposure as DRC Ebola cases rise to 282

Health workers in the Democratic Republic of the Congo have warned that women are at greatest risk in the current Ebola outbreak, citing their role as primary caregivers in households and their overrepresentation in hospitals and care facilities. Authorities said on Sunday that confirmed cases had risen to 282, with the vast majority in Ituri province, 15 in North Kivu and 3 in South Kivu, while WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said five patients have recovered.

UN Women said last week that women have been overrepresented in Ebola deaths for the last 50 years and accounted for around two thirds of reported cases during the 2018-2019 DRC outbreak. Uganda has also confirmed nine cases of the virus.
