🇮🇹🇷🇴 Italy will send fighter jets and 100 troops to Romania following the downing of a Russian drone in the country, media reports.
Although the deployment had been planned in advance, the incident in Galați on May 29 reportedly accelerated the launch of the operation.
The mission will be based at the Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base and, unlike standard NATO air policing operations, will focus on training to counter drone threats.
The Italian contingent is expected to arrive on June 15 and will train Romanian personnel in anti-drone tactics and procedures.
