❤️🩹👏 A seriously wounded Ukrainian defender who spent three days making his way through enemy positions after being injured has won a Brazilian jiu-jitsu tournament following two years of rehabilitation.
The story of Ukrainian soldier Pavlo Pryadka’s rescue, shared by his coach Oleksandr Zhuravlev, has gone viral online.
Pavlo began practicing Brazilian jiu-jitsu at the age of 15. After the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, he signed a contract and joined the defense of Ukraine.
During combat, he suffered severe injuries, including broken legs.
According to his coach, Pavlo spent three days moving through tree lines after being wounded and was close to losing hope before his comrades located and evacuated him from the front line.
A video of the evacuation, showing a fellow soldier overcome with emotion at Pavlo’s rescue, resonated with many viewers.
Pavlo then faced a long and difficult recovery. He underwent multiple surgeries, spent time in a wheelchair, and spent two years rehabilitating.
“He broke his legs, spent three days making his way through the tree lines, and was already losing hope of being saved. But our guys found him and pulled him out of hell.
Just look at his eyes in that video — there is emptiness there. And now he is full of life and ambition,” coach Oleksandr said.
Despite everything, Pavlo returned to sport and this week competed in a major national Brazilian jiu-jitsu tournament, where he won two gold medals.
