Three Russian tankers from the “shadow fleet” were quietly reloading oil in the Black Sea near Türkiye. That’s when naval drones intervened — Reuters, citing the shipping agency Tribeca.

The drones attacked the Palau-flagged tanker James II about 80 km north of the Turkeli area, as well as the Sierra Leone-flagged Altura and Velora vessels in the nearby area.

None of the crew members of the three tankers were injured, and Turkish Coast Guard vessels are already escorting the ships.

No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attacks. However, Turkish OSINT analysts claim that the vessels were attacked by Ukrainian Magura drones.

All three of the attacked vessels are under sanctions. In particular, Altura and Velora were transporting Rosneft oil, for which they were sanctioned by the EU, the UK, Switzerland, and Canada.

The tanker James II has been under UK sanctions since 2025.
