Vietnam’s top leader To Lam will visit the Philippines next week, Manila said on Wednesday, for trade and security talks, according to a Reuters report. The visit will bring To Lam together with Philippine officials as part of planned bilateral discussions.

Manila said the trip comes as President Ferdinand Marcos Jr seeks to further strengthen the country’s regional alliances and security partnerships. Trade and security were identified as the focus of the visit.

The meeting points to continued engagement between Vietnam and the Philippines on economic and security issues. It also fits Manila’s stated effort to deepen regional ties.
