In a commentary published on May 24, the paper said authorities must strengthen bottom-line and worst-case thinking, maintain constant focus on work safety, and improve flood-control and disaster-response readiness during the current rainy season. It also urged stronger source prevention and system-wide governance, saying hidden dangers should be treated as accidents and that risk control tests local implementation, cadre discipline, and corporate responsibility.

The intervention signals renewed central emphasis on industrial safety after a mass-casualty accident in a major coal-producing province. It also places pressure on local governments and mining operators to tighten full-chain oversight.
