The baseline scenario assumes that the waterway reopens in July. Under that scenario, average oil demand would fall by 2.6 million barrels per day, while benchmark Brent crude could peak at around $130 per barrel during the summer.

A longer disruption, however, would require an even sharper drop in demand to offset the supply shock in August and September.

Analysts warn that this could be enough to trigger a full-year decline in global oil consumption in 2026. Several major forecasters are already expecting a rare drop in global demand this year.
