Budanov received a vyshyvanka embroidered for him by children.
Alla Hordiienko, Director General of the National Library of Ukraine for Children, who personally presented the embroidered shirt to the head of the President's Office, said that the children had “coded the embroidery for victory and triumph.”
The design features Cossack and state symbols, as well as figures of a cat, a frog, and an owl — symbols of vigilance, intuition, and observation.
The cat Gunther and the frog Pasha became talismans of the scouts, and their inclusion gave the embroidery a personal meaning, Hordiienko said.
The owl on the back symbolizes strategy and serves as the main amulet. It is also featured on the coat of arms of the Main Intelligence Directorate, which Budanov previously headed.
The composition is complemented by a sword as a symbol of strength, as well as an author’s code of lines and knots representing stability and security.
The children are participants in the “Children Embroider Victory” initiative, launched in 2022. In 2023, it grew into the “Embroidery for a Hero” project.
The children themselves choose a prominent Ukrainian to honor and embroider a shirt for them. Previously, they presented embroidered shirts to Valerii Zaluzhnyi and Vasyl Maliuk, and they are now working on new projects.
