❗️Ukraine’s Defense Ministry confirmed strikes on Moscow and its region, calling it the largest attack there since the start of the full-scale invasion. The ministry said Ukraine’s Defense Forces hit the Moscow oil refinery, the Solnechnogorskaya oil depot and several microelectronics production sites.

"Moscow and the region have felt the most massive attack since the full-scale invasion. The war is returning to where it came from," the ministry said.

Defense forces first struck the Moscow Oil Refinery, Solnechnogorskaya oil depot, and several microelectronics factories.

"Previously, these facilities were protected by a huge number of air defense systems. But something strange happened," the Defense Ministry added.

Russia fired over 3,170 strike drones, more than 1,300 guided bombs and 74 missiles at Ukraine this week, most being ballistic, Zelensky says. The strikes killed 52 people and wounded 346, including 22 children.

🔥 Occupied Henichesk / Arabat Spit, Kherson region, the Defense Forces used six strike UAVs to attack the Russian occupiers' PPD/KP. A large-scale fire broke out at the facility.

🇰🇷🇯🇵 Lee–Takaichi summit set for Tuesday

South Korean President Lee Jae-myung and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi are scheduled to hold a bilateral summit on Tuesday, according to Lee's office, which confirmed the meeting on Sunday. The announcement marks the first formal summit between the two leaders.

Seoul framed the meeting as an opportunity to deepen trust and friendship between the two countries. Japan–South Korea ties have historically been strained by disputes over wartime history and trade, making high-level engagement notable.

The summit signals both governments are prioritizing bilateral stabilization under their current leaderships.

❗️Latvia’s armed forces said one drone entered and then exited Latvian airspace on May 17, triggering threat alerts across five border municipalities. NATO Baltic air policing fighters were activated, and extra air defense units were sent to the eastern border.

🇱🇻 On the morning of May 17, the Latvian National Armed Forces warned about a possible threat in Latvian airspace in a number of border areas with Russia due to the appearance of an unknown drone in the sky.

The drone subsequently left the country's airspace. Fighter jets from the NATO Baltic Airspace Patrol mission were involved.

🇨🇩 Ebola Outbreak Kills 80 in DR Congo's Ituri Province, Spreading to Uganda

Africa's Centres for Disease Control and Prevention has declared an Ebola outbreak in DR Congo's eastern Ituri province, with around 246 cases and 80 deaths reported, mainly in the gold-mining towns of Mongwalu and Rwampara. Preliminary tests at the Institut National de Recherche Biomédicale in Kinshasa detected the virus in 13 of 20 samples analysed. Uganda's health ministry confirmed one imported case on Friday — a 59-year-old Congolese man admitted to a Kampala hospital on Monday who died Thursday. Africa CDC director Dr Jean Kaseya cited significant population movement between affected areas and neighbouring countries as a key concern.

This is DR Congo's 17th Ebola outbreak. The country's deadliest episode, between 2018 and 2020, killed nearly 2,300 people. The Congolese government had not officially declared an outbreak as of Friday, with a press conference expected later that day.
